As an Assistant Buyer you will be accountable for day to day Buying support required to deliver the sourcing strategy for our product groups, to deliver against the commercial initiatives described under the Buy Great Products programme. This will in turn support Dreams to become the Most Recommended and Profitable Bed Company. You will also work cross functionally to support delivery of high quality ethically sourced products.Key Responsibilities:

- Support and assist Buying team to ensure customers can buy great quality products at the best price
- Understanding customer needs, market trends and competitor activity
- Develop and source a high quality and inspirational product range which will deliver against budgeted sales, margin, net profit and working capital targets
- Identifying potential new products, categories and new suppliers, with ability to travel domestically and internationally when required
- Reviewing existing suppliers and their performance
- Managing samples (incl. obtaining them from suppliers as well as storage and disposal)
- Coordination and maintenance of product data, prices and promotions and in doing so support the buying team to create world class, high quality inspirational product ranges
- Provide analysis and preparatory support to assist Buyer with supplier management / negotiations to improve Dreams net terms; intake cost price, payment days, rebate, OTIF and returns agreements
- Loading Commercial Income and ensuring our suppliers are invoiced correctly
- Closely work with Dreams technical and ethical function to support delivery of high quality ethically sourced product at all times with tracking of returns data to support management of returns levels
- Closely work with merchandising team on stock, pricing and promotional plans for a true multi-channel business
- Manage product and packaging innovation, ensure compliance with channel requirements
- Working closely with Web and Marketing teams support own label brand management and development for Dreams sub brands
- Supplier management, own supplier set up acting as a point of contact liaising with third party suppliers on a day to day basis ensuring products and suppliers are set up accurately and on time
- Support store colleagues with customer related queries
- Maintenance of formal Terms Document outlining key trading terms with each supplier
- Brief and sign off Marketing materials for retail and web
- Collation and execution of product set up information, including extended marketing collateral for online merchandising
- Provide regular detailed competitor intelligence to ensure Dreams offer leads the market
- Review and analyse range plans to reflect changing trends, new product development and customer insight

Skills, Experience and Attributes Required:

- Previous Buying experience gained in a fast-paced environment, ideally within Retail
- Ability and confidence to build relationships across all levels of the business and ability to demonstrate effective influencing and stakeholder management skills
- Strategic ability to develop a product area
- Ability to understand and interpret market trends
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Strong financial acumen
- Organised, planning and delivering against realistic but tight timescales
