ABOUT THE ROLE

Liberty Speciality Steels currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Section Engineer to join the business based at our Aldwarke Cast Products site in Rotherham.

The Mechanical Section Engineer will take full responsibility for leading and supporting a highly skilled, multi-disciplined team providing a Mechanical Engineering service to the Aldwarke Cast Products operation, enabling the department to perform within agreed standards. The postholder will ensure continuous improvement in standards of engineering, health and safety, and environmental performance, ensuring that set business objectives are met.

Provide the technical and management expertise necessary to direct, lead and support a highly skilled, multi-disciplined team providing a Mechanical Engineering service to the Aldwarke Cast Products Steelmaking operation, which will enable the Department to operate at a level of availability and performance within agreed standards.

The Mechanical Section Engineer must have the technical, operational and practical experience to make immediate, considered judgements in breakdown situations, paying due regard to the safety and financial implications. This is against a background of continual pressure to satisfy and improve production requirements all of which could lead to out of hours working. The postholder will also deputise for the Lead Engineer in their absence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mechanical Section Engineer will undertake the following duties and responsibilities;

* Determine and allocate the engineering resources and materials needed to satisfy the operational and engineering requirements of the plant.

* Devise and develop planned maintenance and inspection schedules and ensure that they are implemented to meet statutory, quality and engineering requirements.

* Provide Technical and Engineering expertise to Production Management and Engineering staff to resolve plant engineering problems and developments.

* To ensure safety standards in the area are maintained and safe working procedures are implemented and adhered to at all levels.

* To clearly implement and demonstrate the required approach to process safety requirements in the area of responsibility.

* Monitor and control expenditure on spares, materials and labour to keep within agreed budgets.

* Identify and assist in the preparation of capital and revenue schemes, resulting in the continuous enhancement of engineering and production performance.

* Develop, prepare and submit Major Maintenance proposals and Stop Week schedules, with responsibility for justification, and full implementation, in order to meet the programme of Works within agreed costs and timescales.

* Organise and manage the training and development of the Mechanical elements of a multi-discipline engineering team and production personnel to provide a safety conscious and technically competent workforce.

* To monitor KPIs for the area of responsibility, identify any deviation from target and implement corrective action at the appropriate level, to include coaching of Team Leaders and Craftsmen to achieve these aims.

* To perform the role of Duty Engineer when requested, having sole responsibility for all engineering aspects of ACP whilst following a weekend rota-working pattern should production levels necessitate.

* To carry out Safety and Housekeeping Audits on a regular basis to encourage improved performance.

* Engage in the development and failure reduction activities.

* Manage and develop Engineers and Craft teams to satisfy current and long-term Business objectives. To ensure the team achieve their full working potential through ongoing updates, appraisals, 121's and PDPs, addressing any knowledge and skills gaps that may be in evidence

* Develop and train the Team Leader and Engineers to a standard, which would allow delegation of responsibilities and cover when necessary.

* To develop, and be responsible for, a daily plan developed from 24-hour review meetings for area of responsibility, communicate across all disciplines, and ensure the coordination of resources to achieve the plan.

* Monitor Oil and grease consumption within ACP and liaise with the Environmental Engineer to reduce usage and costs where possible to ensure ACP KPI's are achieved.

REQUIRED SKILLS

The Mechanical Section Engineer will hold the following skills and experience;

* A strong technical knowledge of mechanical engineering with a comprehensive understanding of complex hydraulic and pneumatic systems together with a good understanding of mechanical engineering principals.

* At least 5 years' experience in either a supervisory or technical role and must hold one of the following qualifications Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent HND or HNC

* A sound knowledge of accounting, stores and purchasing systems.

* A good working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and the application in a Steelworks environment.

* Effective man manager with the necessary leadership skills to motivate a diverse workforce.

* Strong Drive, Motivation and Commitment: the extent to which the individual is self-starting and self-motivated and the degree and consistency of energy / enthusiasm which is committed in the pursuit of objectives and business goals.

* The post holder should have good analytical skills and the ability to assimilate, organise and analyse pertinent information for logic-based problem solving.
