Mechanical Craft Apprentice (Mining) - British Gypsum - Robertsbridge, East Sussex
We are inviting applications from individuals who are interested in a mechanical craft apprenticeship!
This opportunity is working with British Gypsum, part of the Saint-Gobain group, at our production and mining site in Robertsbridge.
The plant is one of the most advanced of its kind in Europe. Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the fauna and flora being unique in this part of East Sussex. Great effort and expense has been made to ensure the preservation of this environment and blend this vital World Class Manufacturing facility with the surrounding countryside.

The successful candidate will be trained in:
General, engineering and mine safety
Mechanical principles
Use of tools and equipment
Repair and maintenance of the equipment we use underground in our mineral extraction process
Process engineeringOperational mining techniques
This is a unique opportunity to enter into a specialist engineering role, within a World Class Manufacturing orientated company that covers a wide range of engineering aspects from general machining, bench fitting, repair and maintenance of high pressure hydraulic systems, plant fitting-working on heavy underground tunnelling machinery, welding (MMA & MIG), oxy-fuel flame cutting, compressed air systems and mining conveyor drives, to Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM), report writing, liaising with HM Inspectorate for Mines and record keeping.
The training will include, but not limited to:
Safety
First Aid
Mechanical principles
Diesel fitting
Materials technology
Process engineering
Process control equipment
Underground survey techniques
High voltage electricity awareness
Conveyor belt maintenance
Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS)The working hours for this role will be 39 hours/week (including college) shifts from Monday to Thursday (7am-3pm and 3pm-11pm) and Friday 7am-2pm and 2pm-9pm)
