To help us create these amazing partnerships, we need amazing people. Canine Partners has an exciting opportunity for a Puppy Training and Development Manager to join our Puppy Training Team. Working directly with our dedicated puppy trainers and volunteers you will be responsible for the successful operation, development and delivery of structured standardised training across all of Canine Partners' Puppy Training Satellites.

Puppy Training and Development Manager Responsibilities:

As the leader of our busy Puppy Training Team you will direct the training and socialisation activities carried out with puppies and young dogs in Canine Partners Satellites, ensuring these are achieved in the most effective and appropriate way, using positive reward based methods. Using a high level of dog training and behaviour knowledge and experience you will introduce systems to identify and support resolution of behavioural issues in puppies if they arise.

Collaboration is a key element of this role as you will be working cross departmentally with a number of the operations departments as well as wider departments within the organisation. With the Regional Satellite Managers and Veterinary Liaison Coordinator you will work together to maintain the highest standards of care and welfare for Canine Partners' puppies in training. With the support of the Volunteer Development Manager and Communications Team you will provide high levels of support and communication for volunteers as well as ensuring the recruitment and training of volunteers meets future partnership targets. You will be an active contributor to Operations Department meetings to support plans for continuous growth and improvement.

In order to maintain current standards and promote continuous knowledge growth you will use your expertise to lead the development and delivery of a comprehensive and structured training and socialisation program specifically for staff and volunteers working with puppies on an ongoing basis. You will be able to provide regular training, up skilling, support and expert advice to your team to ensure they have the required level of support, knowledge and skills to do their job effectively.

Puppy Training and Development Manager Requirements:

  • Demonstrable expertise in puppy and dog training, behaviour and socialisation.
  • ABTC recognised accreditation such as member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers or equivalent accreditation.
  • Proven ability to write training and socialisation programmes.
  • Proven track record of the management and development of a widely dispersed team.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Demonstrable continued professional development and keeping up to date with the latest science in the field.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills.


You will have the ability to be self-directed, using initiative to work collaboratively in teams with people from different backgrounds. You will need excellent ICT skills and a full UK driving licence and provision of your own vehicle or the ability to transport yourself in line with the requirements of the post. Most importantly you will be passionate about the transformative impact that our assistance dogs provide to our beneficiaries.

Location: This role can be based flexibly, ideally it will be based from either one of our training centres in either Osgathorpe, Leicestershire or Midhurst, West Sussex.

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: GBP31,407 to GBP39,258 (depending on experience)
