Have you ever wondered how new homes and communities get built? Are you already working within the built environment sector or studying a relevant subject and want to train to become a chartered Town Planner?
PCL Planning Ltd are a planning and development consultancy based in Exeter. We work predominately across the South West on a wide range of projects, including large scale housing and commercial developments, and are looking for a talented, motivated and dynamic individual to join us as a Planning Apprentice. This is a new role that will enable someone to join our business while they work towards an RTPI accredited Degree Apprenticeship in Planning at the University of the West of England (Bristol).
We provide a lead consultancy service and are therefore often responsible for managing entire development teams comprising a range of professionals including architects, engineers, landscape consultants, ecological consultants, and legal representatives. You will therefore have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the planning and development process from carrying out
Role & Responsibilities
Your role and responsibilities will be wide ranging and duties will include:
· Carrying out site history/planning research
· Carrying out development Plan monitoring/planning policy research
· Collating and submitting planning applications, appeals and Environmental Statements
· Monitoring progress of planning applications and appeals
· Preparing first draft planning and appeal statements and other reports (e.g. Legal Instructions) as required (in due course)
· Arranging and assisting with meetings, seminars and public consultation events (as necessary)
· Field/deal with incoming calls (as necessary)
· Any other general technical and admin duties as required
University Study
Your university studies will be undertaken on a day-release basis, with additional study time allocated during the working week. You will learn through a mix of lectures, workshops and seminars and will undertake modules such as Plan Making, Healthy Sustainable Communities and Environmental Planning and Design. To support you in your studies you will be allocated an Apprenticeship Training Coordinator at UWE Bristol. However, your colleagues at PCL Planning Ltd will also be on hand to support you, most of whom have already obtained their RTPI membership and will therefore be well placed in guiding you through your studies and subsequent RTPI Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) (which you will be required to submit following completion of your studies to obtain chartered membership of the RTPI).
This role is therefore a fantastic opportunity to gain working knowledge and experience of the entire planning and development process which will provide a sound basis for a career in Town Planning, as well as the ability to become a chartered member of the RTPI, without the expense of tuition fees and all whilst earning a salary.
