Job Description - Health, Safety and Training Manager
Location: Potto, North Yorkshire
Reports to: Board of Directors
Remuneration: GBP30,000 - GBP40,000 depending on experience
About the Company
Prestons of Potto is an award-winning Haulage and Warehousing company based in the North East of England. The company was founded in 1936 and employs approximately 200 people across four locations. The company is headquartered at Potto, with satellite depots at Stockton-on-Tees, Knottingley and St. Neots.
The business works with a wide range of customers and has been involved in several high-profile projects for large blue-chip clients. The depot is ideally located just off the A19 and boasts a modern fleet of articulated curtainside, flatbed and extender vehicles.
The Role:
This is varied Health, Safety and training role which requires high levels of autonomy and responsibility. You will be working alongside our distribution, warehousing, maintenance, and office-based teams to ensure the safety and welfare of our employees whilst at work.
A fundamental aspect of this position will be to carry out risk assessments, accident investigation and near miss/hazard spotting. You will be advising on H&S legislation and practical implications, ensuring that compliance issues are adhered to, for example RIDDOR and accident reporting. You will provide constant 'on-the-floor' presence to ensure H&S standards are being met.
You will be reviewing all H&S policies, procedures, rules, and regulations that are in place, ensuring they are regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated. In this role you will ensure that the Company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety, and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.
Another aspect of this position relates to employee training and development. You will be required to ensure the competence of employees and deliver training where required. Typically this will relate to driving style, load securing and manual handling that takes place throughout the organisation.
Knowledge and understanding of Driver Hours Regulations and Tachograph Compliance will be greatly beneficial. Possession a valid Transport Management CPC is desirable but not essential.
Health, Safety & Training Manager Main Responsibilities:
* Investigating health-related complaints and cases of ill health
* Carrying our risk assessments and site inspections
* Ensuring that equipment is installed correctly and safely
* Identifying potential hazards
* Determining ways to reducing risks
* Compiling statistics and writing reports
* Liaising with external health and safety authorities
* Monitoring and managing motor insurance claims
* Keeping up to date and ensuring compliance with current health and safety legislation.
* Develop and deliver training initiatives to enhance our workforce
* Monitoring and managing tachograph compliance (experience dependent)
The Health, Safety & Training Manager Candidate:
* Ideally you will be experienced H&S Advisor with a transport & logistics background.
* Knowledge of load restraint, tachographs and drivers hours is highly desirable.
* NEBOSH general certification is mandatory
* Other relevant qualifications include, IOSH managing safely, Transport Management CPC, C+E driving licence, RTITB Driver Assessor or Driver Trainer, FLT Instructors certificate.
* A solid understanding of current HSE legislation and compliance
* IT literate
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* An eye for detail
* Good interpersonal skills and a willingness to work with people at all levels of an organisation

* Good communication skills
* Can work in a fast paced environment
