Job Title: Chef Supervisor

Location: Harrogate HG2 8NZ

Salary: Competitive

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent - 40 hours per week working 5 out of 7 operational days of the week with occasional additional hours in mornings/evenings and weekends as a feature of the role - however no standard split shifts or continuous evening shift working.

Fodder is the home of tasty, local food, based on the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate.

Fodder is an award winning farm shop and caf?? in Harrogate with all the profits going to the charitable work of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society. We're 12 years old and celebrate and sell the very best of Yorkshire food and drink, with sales in excess of GBP3m per annum.

We are exceptionally proud of our focus on delicious, fresh seasonal food coupled with great customer service and friendly atmosphere.

A few years ago we bought a vintage 1960's Airstream and created 'Fodder on the Hoof' to offer customers great quality take away food.

Purpose of the Role:

We're currently looking for a Supervisor to proactively manage the day to day running of 'Fodder on the Hoof', organising the rota and the food prep, cooking and selling delicious food and drinks, with great customer service.

You will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic chef, who knows what the customers want and how to respond to the weather with specials from soup to milkshakes. You will be passionate about great food and great customer service and be commercially minded.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all dishes are presented to the highest standard in terms of freshness and flavour and in a timely manner
  • Have a good understanding of margins and sales
  • Work with Head chef to update the menu seasonally and use stock surpluses and use them to prepare daily specials
  • Have a good understanding of food trends to continually strive to offer new seasonal ideas to keep the menu exciting
  • Be a Barista and make amazing milk shakes too
  • Offer all customers amazing customer service, actively welcome customers and create a positive experience
  • Be prepared to work hard in a small but close team and share their passion for great food and service
  • Control and order the consumables necessary to operate the Hoof, being both environmentally and cost aware
  • To understand the Fodder ethos of promoting the best Yorkshire products
  • Keep accurate ingredient and allergen information to keep customers informed and safe
  • Correctly package and serve food, safely, efficiently and consistently
  • Carefully manage stock levels and stock rotation, ensuring all food is correctly dated and stored
  • Prepares hot and cold drinks for customer orders
  • Take orders and money to offer a prompt and accurate service
  • In quiet periods, help the kitchen with tasks that can be undertaken in Fodder on the Hoof
  • Train and manage other Fodder on the Hoof staff
  • Keep inside and outside of Airstream clean and tidy; observe and adhere to daily and weekly cleaning schedules
  • Ensure that all comments or complaints are resolved and reported to the Head chef

About you:

  • Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
  • Proven experience of working as a chef in a busy kitchen
  • Excellent record of kitchen and staff management
  • Self-motivated - someone who can be productive in busy and quiet times
  • Be committed to exceptional levels of customer service
  • Be organised and efficient
  • Good attention to detail to ensure food is of a consistent and high standard
  • Be friendly and approachable
  • Someone who is passionate about food and can cope with the vagaries of the weather, it can be cold and it can be hot in the Hoof
  • Excellent people skills especially the ability to welcome and chat to customers whilst their orders are being prepared
  • Good communication skills with Fodder team
  • Ability to be calm and cope with stressful situations in an effective and appropriate manner
  • Good team working skills in a pressurised environment
  • Ability to multitask from cooking, talking to customers, serving food and also taking money
  • Be passionate about local, tasty food
  • Be fit and active as this is a physically demanding role
  • Must be able to work longer hours through peak periods such as the Great Yorkshire Show
