Seashell Trust have an exciting opportunity for an inspirational Head of Children’s Services and Registered Manager to join our innovative and ambitious organisation and ‘GOOD’ rated Children’s Home.

Seashell is a national charitable trust with a heritage that stretches over almost 200 years. We support children and young adults with severe, profound and complex learning disabilities, sensory impairment and additional communication and physical needs from across the UK.We provide care and education, for children aged 3-18 years old and young adults aged 19-25 years of age. The children and young adults who learn with us also live with us. In April 2020 Seashell Trust was granted planning consent to develop our new school and campus which will complement the bespoke homes that were built in 2015/16, so this is an excellent time to join the Trust as our site continues to develop and our aspiration and ambition grows.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Director of Care, the post holder will manage a Children’s Home registration of 24 Children and Young People. The Home is located on one campus and consists of 6 detached purpose built dwellings that sit in close proximity to each other within a small private cul de sac. Each house can comfortably accommodate up to four children and young people, with a total capacity for 24 across the six residencies. (As at May 2021, 15 children are resident)

The Head of Children’s Services and Registered Manager will hold one registration for all six of the children’s houses with Ofsted and will work within the Statutory Legislation as set out within the Care Standards Act 2000 and the Children’s Home regulations (2015) and Quality Standards. The Head of Service will assure the quality of care delivered and that the service is fully compliant with Ofsted’s regulatory social care common inspection framework (SCCIF) and any additional relevant legislation.This post would suit applicants who have previously managed and lead multiple services or who have worked in a senior operational management role on a large site.

Requirements

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, equivalent or above (QCF)
  • Demonstrable experience and proven success as a senior Operational Manager and/or Registered Manager or Head of Service working with children and young adults with learning disabilities, complex needs and challenging behaviour
  • Knowledge of communication strategies for non-verbal learners
  • Established leadership and Care management experience in a Children’s Home setting and/or residential education setting
  • Sound knowledge of Children’s Home Regulation and ability to translate the Quality Standards into good and outstanding practice
  • Working understanding of OFSTED’s social care regulatory framework and compliances (SCCIF)
  • Strong line management skills and experience in supporting staff, building effective teams including staff supervision and appraisal
  • Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding legislation and procedures, preferably in a designated lead role
  • Track record of delivering good and outstanding provision against identified key objectives and performance indicators
    • Flexible approach to work, responsive to the needs of the children and young people and the service provision including evenings, weekends and on-call rota
    • Ability to work and deliver registered services within a larger Trust/Organisational environment which provides access to a full range of on-site support services including Finance, IT, HR, positive Behaviour Management, Safeguarding team, clinical and nursing TDDI provision. All services can be internally ‘commissioned’ by the Head of Children’s Service and RM to support the delivery of services to children, budget management experience is also required
      • Car driver and willingness to use own car in line with Trust’s Safe Driving policy
