Mechanical Engineer - Estates Manager and Operations
My Client is NHS Trust Hospital based in Basildon and are looking for a SME Mechanical engineer estates manager and operations role. You will be working closely with Trust, Management, Operations, Engineers and reporting to Operations Manager.
Immediate Start
Salary - NHS Band 7 hourly rate
3 month contract. High chances of extension

Role:-
* Responsible for ensuring that mechanical engineering maintenance, including specialist contract work is carried out to the appropriate standards and specifications.
* Manage the Trust's mechanical plant and equipment including water systems.
* Provide specialist engineering knowledge and advice to the Senior Engineer, Maintenance Manager, in-house project teams, Consultants and operational staff. Ensure that the Trust's maintenance management systems reflect good practice in accordance with H&S legislation and HTM's.
* Ensure that the Trust's mechanical systems asset register is maintained and all such assets are compliant with statutory and HTM requirements.
* Perform the role of Authorised Person (AP) for the Trust's mechanical services and pressure systems and arrange and monitor specialist contracts to provide maintenance and validation of mechanical plant and systems.
* Participate in the Trusts out of hours on-call engineering service.
* Arrange, monitor and be accountable for specialist contracts to provide maintenance and validation of mechanical plant and systems.
* Provide risk-based assessments of all maintenance activity to ensure excellent value for money in maintaining the Trust's estate
* Undertake mechanical engineering projects for the replacement, repair or enhancement of systems
* Set appropriate policy and procedural frameworks for all maintenance activity.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Setting standards to be applied across all work which reflect the Trust requirements for high quality accommodation and high-quality maintenance. To ensure the adequate provision, operation and maintenance of the Trust's mechanical systems.
Ventilation systems, Steam systems and boiler plant
Decontamination equipment e.g. Autoclaves and washer disinfectors
Lifts and lifting equipment
Water services and Gas services
Piped medical gas systems (oxygen, medical air, vacuum, surgical air, nitrous oxide, Entonox) including oxygen VIE plants and bottled gas manifold systems.
Pressure systems and equipment
Participate in any site management or Directorate out of hours on call service as requested.
Essential:
Physical Skills
Duties involve walking, climbing ladders with occasional working at height, in confined spaces and in remote hot/dusty/cold plant rooms/basement areas
Physical Effort
This can be physically demanding, necessitation a good level of health and fitness
Mental Effort
Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
Excellent computer IT skills
Self-motivated with the ability to influence and motivate others
Commitment to public service values of transparency, probity and accountability

During the normal course of their duties, you will be required to work in all areas of the hospital. This includes areas where they will be indirectly exposed to distressing and emotional situations
Working Conditions
You will be sometimes required to undertake activities in physically unpleasant and, or, hazardous conditions. This will include working to C.O.S.H.H. regulations when undertaking handling, storage, usage and disposal of chemicals. Duties will include unblocking macerators, sinks, baths, toilets and other drainage pipe work, all of which could potentially contain bio-hazardous waste
