Our client, an established and expanding manufacturing business are currently looking for an experienced Shift Production Team Leader/Supervisor to join their team.

Overall Purpose:

  • Reporting to the Production Manager this autonomous position will be a challenging multi-facetted role requiring a person who can adapt and be flexible in managing their duties.
  • You will be responsible for a team of approximately 18-24 employees per shift.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To monitor the health and safety of the members of your team, reporting to your manager any issues or matters that may arise including near misses, tripping hazards etc.
  • To monitor the production output of the shift against the production plan, targeting the achievement of planned volume per machine per shift. Any variances from the plan to be reported via the daily Production meeting.
  • To control and measure production wastage for each shift, particularly during changeovers and design changes, minimizing wastage wherever possible.
  • Wherever there are changeovers/design changes, to sign off the check sheets confirming that the required quality has been achieved.
  • Carry out all checks, audits and paperwork required by the company BRC/Quality system.
  • Manage, develop and motivate direct reporting staff, identifying training requirements.
  • Ensure good communication is given either verbally or written to all members of the shift.
  • Problem solving and trouble shooting skills are used to ensure that all team members can identify root causes and take fast effective action to resolve the problems in hand.
  • Where employees inform you that they are unable to attend work, re-allocate members of your team, depending on the priorities of the production plan. If the employee is sick ensure, return to work interviews are carried out and self-certification forms are completed.
  • Where appropriate or necessary, issue and record informal warnings to any team members where there is clear evidence of absence, continued non-performance or attitude issues, reporting to HR and your Manager the issues. HR will communicate any matters that are of a serious nature where further steps should be taken through a formal disciplinary procedure.
  • At the end of each shift provide relevant reports on downtime, wastage and output. In addition, via the shift handover and the "communication book", provide all required information necessary for the follow-on shift, including maintenance issues.
  • Liaise with the other Team Leaders regarding your holidays/absence, in order to ensure that all team leaders share the cover required.
  • Ensure that all members of your team where appropriate, provide a proper handover at their machine to the follow-on shift before leaving site.
  • Prior to the end of the shift check the rest room and changing areas making sure that these have been left in a clean and tidy condition.
  • Cover the operating of machines as and when required and provide support to operators throughout the shift.

The Person:

  • The suitable candidate should be dynamic, self-driven, results orientated, and above all have a positive 'can do' attitude with a clear focus on delivering good quality products first time.
  • We are looking for a highly organised, natural forward planning, logical, structured thinker and motivator who can critically assess situations and act on them.
  • Ideally have a minimum of 3 years proven experience and/or a ILM Level 3 or above qualification, working in a high mass volume manufacturing environment as a Shift Supervisor or within an equivalent capacity.
  • Ideally coming from a plastics background but not essential.
  • You should be able to read/write and communicate in English as all reports, company policies and procedures are communicated in English.

The Role/Package:

  • GBP11.78 per hour increasing to GBP13.50 once trained and running a shift.
  • 12 hours, 24/7 shift pattern, alternating days and nights 6.30am-18.30pm and 18.30pm-06.30am.
