Our Local Authority client has a 6 Month CONTRACT vacancy (with a possibility of an extension) for a SENIOR PROGRAMME OFFICER, PUBLIC HEALTH AND WELLBEING, details as follows

Job Purpose
To support the organisation in its work to reduce health inequalities, improve outcomes for vulnerable communities and in the recovery from Covid-19. This will be through promoting innovation, contributing to the management and direction of local policies and strategies in relation to health improvement and reduction of inequalities and collaborating with partners and community sector organisations. The post holder will also provide support to the Consultant in Public Health and the Senior Programme Manager on key priorities, including wider determinants of health.

Responsibilities

To lead on the health inequalities programme of work for the organisation.
To lead on NHS Health Checks and contribute towards the organisation West CVD priority work stream.
Contribute to the management and direction of local policies and strategies in relation to health improvement and the reduction of inequalities.
Ensure that the reduction of health inequalities is embedded into policy, strategies and practice across the local authority based on population need, evidence of best practice and effectiveness.
Keep up to date with relevant national and local policy, evidence and good practice focusing on wider determinants and health improvement.
To identify opportunities to promote innovation and excellence in addressing health inequalities and improve outcomes for vulnerable communities.
Champion work that empowers local communities to improve their health and wellbeing.
To take a leadership role in reducing inequalities in testing and uptake of covid-19 vaccinations as part of the organisation's response to Covid-19.
Essential Requirements

Educated to Degree level.
Relevant Public Health qualification e.g Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health or other relevant Post Graduate qualification.
Experience of working in a political environment
Experience and knowledge of working with the NHS, local government, community and voluntary sector groups
Experience of developing, implementing and evaluating public health programmes
Experience of applying project management principles, managing and reporting on outcomes and budgets
Experience in line managing staff
Experience of analyzing complex and varied data and handling datasets
Experience writing reports for different audiences
Experience of writing both short and long term action plans and strategies
Understanding of the local government environment
Knowledge of the wider determinants of health and their contribution to health inequalities
Knowledge of health services and how they are organised
Knowledge of health intelligence and data sources
Understanding of the use of health indicators in Public Health and key partners
Good understanding of methods of developing evidence based practice and measuring health gains
