Are you a qualified Occupational Therapist seeking a rewarding role, supporting clients with complex needs around their recovery in a dynamic supported housing environment?
About the role
This position is within a non-clinical supported housing team, Hounslow LIFE – a large and varied accommodation service, supporting clients with complex needs to recover and progress with their lives. The post-holder will develop the role of OT in the service, working alongside the support staff team to deliver more specialist interventions and assessments, liaising with external partners to help clients achieve the best outcomes possible, & ensuring that appropriate accommodation and support packages are in place.
Clients present with varied and complex needs, including mental and physical health problems, substance use, offending behaviours, safeguarding risks, and care needs, and experience multiple barriers to accessing the support they require. Your role will be to support the team and clients around more complex cases, in order to overcome these challenges and move towards independent living.
In this role you will:
Deliver and develop the Occupational Therapy provision for clients with a history of homelessness and complex needs. Hounslow LIFE supports around ninety clients in a range of accommodation types, including two complex needs hostels, an assessment centre, four semi-independent projects, and three move-on properties.
Develop a range of assessments, therapeutic skills and interventions including: use of standardized OT assessments; individual focused interventions; OT specific therapies focusing on leisure, ETE & self-care; supporting successful community living and ultimately enabling clients to progress to and live independently.
You will continue to grow skills around working with physical, mental health; and substance use needs, and have the opportunity to work with experienced OTs working within the homelessness sector. You will be supported by an experienced team of managers and support workers to develop this exciting and innovative aspect of our service.
Things to consider:
Your usual working hours will be Monday-Friday, 9-5, with some flexibility expected – and with flexi hours available as an option
The fixed salary point has been set to be equivalent to the NHS Band 6 (plus outer London weighting) entry level, so as to be competitive.
About you
A passionate and experienced individual; committed to our recovery approach alongside:
Post-qualification experience in a community or hospital setting at Band 5 level; and some experience of carrying out a range of OT assessments and identification of health and social care needs.
Strong influencing skills and the ability to maintain relationships with multi-agency colleagues.
An understanding of the issues faced by homeless or vulnerable people and the difficulties they experience in accessing services.
The ability to communicate effectively with excluded and vulnerable people, advocate for them, and challenge discrimination when required.
A creative approach to problem-solving, and the confidence to work autonomously to use your expertise to develop & deliver a new OT approach within this service model.
