Senior Engineer - Electrical Distribution
London: GBP46,250-GBP70,397
Glasgow/Cardiff: GBP43,650-GBP64,640

Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply.

What we do matters: making a difference to people's lives now, and for generations to come. We offer a diverse range of flexible working career opportunities: roles that are stimulating and rewarding. And it's important to us that we recruit from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds - bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.

This is a great career move for someone with professional experience as an electrical engineer working with Distribution Level Systems, the networks industry or supply chain. You'll fulfil a key role in our regulation of onshore networks, providing engineering and policy support across Ofgem. Key areas of focus will include the implementation of RIIO-ED2 to electricity distribution networks as well as considering regulation of networks, electricity network codes, the development of smart grids and more general network innovation. Your technical expertise will be essential to ensure Ofgem can effectively regulate the electricity network companies and that you can work with stakeholders to define, explain and influence the development of Ofgem's position on particular issues.

Your experience of Electrical Distribution could involve a number of different activities such as: operations; system design & planning; network codes; smart grids and network innovation; asset management; or performance and quality of services. A highly capable project manager, you will be able to achieve agreed outcomes to tight timescales and you should already be familiar with the key concepts of economic regulation. It's important that you can establish positive working relationships with others and that you have the communication skills to bring technical subject matter to life for different audiences.

You'll be part of a team that is split between our offices in London and Glasgow, and flexible or part-time working arrangements would be considered.

Ofgem is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We embrace diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All employment is decided on the basis of open and fair competition, merit and business need.

Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive benefits package, which includes:

  • Up to 30 days' annual leave
  • Excellent training and development opportunities
  • The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits
  • Flexible working hours and family friendly policies
  • Subsidised gym
  • Interest free season ticket loan
  • Rental deposit scheme
  • Perkbox (staff discount scheme)
  • Employee Wellbeing Programme.
