Job Title: Visiting Officer (7 Month Contract)
Location: B44 - Birmingham (Kingstanding)
Salary: GBP10.68 p/h
Working Week: 36.5 hours per week
We have an exciting opportunity for a Visiting Officer to join Birmingham City Council working within either a letting suite or another team. This role is aimed at providing one to one support and achieving positive outcomes by identifying and assisting new and existing tenants at risk of tenancy failure and to enable them to maintain their tenancies and make improvements to their circumstances and well-being including finding work and improving financial capability. The role will involve both proactive and responsive work, identification and referral of cases to be escalated, and casework as directed by the housing officer.
Duties & Responsibilities
* To resolve customer enquiries and requests relating to the setting up of new tenancies and sustaining of existing tenancies, including undertaking lettings, case managing new tenants and escalating appropriately, high level and complex issues to the Housing Officer.
* To understand and diagnose a customer's needs holistically across and facilitate cross-service solutions to enable them to begin and sustain their tenancy.
* To promote the availability and access to advice and information for new and existing tenants.
* Effectively signpost to support following triage of support needs for new and existing tenants.
* Tracking and monitoring new tenancies for any breaches of the tenancy, such as non-payment of rent and antisocial behaviour.
* Handover of tenancies reaching 12 weeks.
Skills & Experience
* Experience in a similar role is preferred, but not essential.
* Good written and verbal skills.
* Must be IT illiterate.
* Must have up to date knowledge and understanding of housing landlord and tenant policy procedures where pertinent to the role.
* Ability to prioritise, implement and monitor work with conflicting priorities in line with targets and objectives in a pressurised environment.
* Ability to work with people in challenging circumstances and to maintain a calm and professional approach in difficult situations.
