What the job is about:

The HR Adviser role is responsible for providing business-focussed generalist HR advice, guidance and interventions to our DVSA programmes under the support and guidance of the Senior HR Business Partner. Duties will primarily focus on workforce management, working time & attendance management, employee relations & retention, performance & conduct management and organisational design.

Essential Criteria:
  • Educated to degree level
  • Must either have or be working towards CIPD qualified status
  • Willingness to work 40 hours per week (excluding breaks) on rota within HRA team, specifically early mornings (from 7:30am), evenings (up to 6:30pm) and Saturdays (08:30am to 1:00pm)
  • Background of working in a generalist HR environment with some experience of supporting and advising line managers on a range of HR issues such as employee consultations, reorganisations, disciplinaries, grievance and sickness absence proceedings.
  • Experience of creating/updating Company policies and procedures, supporting employees in all areas of Company compensation and benefits.
  • Experience of supported internal and external recruitment & selection processes (attraction, assessment centres, interviews, testing etc.).


Required skills and experience:
  • A practical and up to date understanding of employment law.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced commercial environment that is subject to regular change.
  • Providing people focussed interventions that support the delivery of business objectives without compromising the Company's HR policies and procedures.
  • Ability to analyse and understand issues/information to make decisions or put forward recommendations that are both robust and defensible.
  • Confident in dealing with people at all levels within the organisation providing accurate HR advice whilst also willing to challenge and confront where appropriate.
  • Strong attention to detail whether that be employee data, contractual issues and employee relations matters.
  • Well organised and methodical with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Tactful and discreet in handling sensitive personal information.
  • IT literate particularly with Word and Excel.
