The Role

We currently have a permanent opportunity for an Automation Engineer to join our large manufacturing business in Leicester. You will be assisting the existing electrical engineering team, working very closely with the mechanical maintenance team, and reporting to the PM/CNV Mechanical Maintenance Manager. You will be required to provide maintenance support to production and documentation required to ensure daily products produced at minimum cost. In addition, to assist in maintaining, fixing and correcting any related problems within the plant. You will be expected to maintain and manage all control & automation systems including software and hardware throughout site to achieve engineering objectives in line with Group standards, safety guidelines and work instructions.
The normal hours of work will be between Monday and Friday but due to the 24/7/365 nature of the operation we may ask you from time to time to cover shift holidays or sickness, and we ask you to be flexible during machine shutdowns.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

* Perform routine diagnostic checks on automated systems, monitor them and isolate problems
* Repair and debug control devices to avoid production loss, as well as create documentation based on the schematics and wiring plans for each device
* Follow electrical regulations and inspect controllers to ensure code compliance
* Troubleshoot PLC, Industrial Control systems and relay control circuits
* Support shift technicians in fault diagnosis and rectification of control system faults & failures
* Assist in the implementation of control systems for new processes & equipment
* Participate in emergency on-call duty on a rotational basis
* Provide an engineering service to the production units in terms of maintaining paper machines and site services to achieve maximum efficiency, minimal downtime and reduced engineering costs.
* Foster safe working principles throughout the organisation and to highlight concerns or practices that contravene safety.
* Play an active part I the development of the organisation, to give opinions and offer advice to the best of your ability.
* Act proactively in problem solving with agility in your field of responsibility. Always being part of a solution with a strong team work approach.
* Carry out scheduled maintenance.
* Repair machinery and equipment on a regular basis to enable continual production.
* Maintain the Company maintenance registers in order to allow corrective actions on faults.
* Motivate and encourage trainees and offer assistance and advice as required in terms of their development.
* Have enhanced planned maintenance skills with effective follow -ups.

Job Specific Skills and Experience/Qualifications

* Must possess recognised approved apprenticeship/relevant qualifications, multi- skilled experience.
* Ability to read advance electrical drawings.
* Ability to work on Siemens S5, S7, Allen Bradley and Elau PLC's developing, modify and fault finding.
* Ability to work on HMI's, developing, modifying and fault finding.
* Ability to work on Robots, Teaching and programming.
* Ability to work on different types of communication systems, Profibus, MPI, Can bus, Profinet, Fiberoptic and Industrial Ethernet.
* Ability to work with different types of drives, ABB, Siemens, Indramat, and Elau.
* Have a significant amount of experience working in a packaging environment, working under pressure to keep the production producing at 100%
* Have a good knowledge of doing continuous improvement studies to always be sure the line is running at maximum capacity.
* Ability to work on SAP purchasing and Computer Maintenance Monitoring Systems.
* Knowledge of SAP, ability to read electrical drawings.
* Ability to work to tight deadlines.
* Ability to communicate and produce reports, documentation and be PC literate.
* Experience of working within a Total Quality organisation
