Functional Safety Engineer - Defence/Marine

A well-established British multinational arms, security and aerospace company is looking for a Functional Safety Engineer to provide support to the Engineering Delivery Manager in the development, delivery and maintenance of the Project Product Safety Management System and Product Safety to ensure products are safe to own and legal to operate.

As a Functional Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Deriving and managing requirements.
• Developing, implementing, and maintaining the Management System.
• Producing and managing plans.
• Leading hazard and risk identification, management, and assessment activities.
• Providing engineering advice to the wider community.
• Overseeing the administration and management of the Project Hazard Log.
• Influencing the construction and delivery of the case including reports.
• Supporting the production of training material to support training delivery.
• Delivering training to the Product Safety and Environmental domains and the wider community.
• Leading engagement with internal and external customers, ensuring that their requirements are fully considered and adequately supported where appropriate and agreed.
• Producing, presenting, and articulating clear and logical technical arguments.
• Completing peer reviews, checking, verification and assurance tasks to demonstrate the adequacy and robustness of the Safety Case and supporting documentation. Overseeing and reviewing junior rules in the team.
• Understanding the application of wider Case, Quality and HS and E Management System documentation.
• Supporting the appropriate meetings and Working Groups.
• Chairing hazard identification meetings.
• Supporting the development of realistic programme status updates, identify problem areas and implement agreed recovery plans.
• Leading appropriate meetings and Working Groups.

We are looking for a Functional Safety Engineer who has the following skills and experiences:

• Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) Degree or equivalent qualification.
• Professional chartership or working towards.
• Demonstrable knowledge of design, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and testing submarines lifecycle phases.
• MS Office proficient - Word, Excel etc
• Awareness of the challenges posed by the environment that the product will be exposed to.
• The ability to analyse complex problems and identify the most critical issues.
• Ability to interpret technical data and produce clear, logical, and robust arguments.
