A manufacturer of marine electronics is seeking a Software Manager for their site in Lancashire (the work will be based from the office 5 days a week).
The Software manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the people, resources and processes required to deliver new software or upgrade existing products. Applicants must have relevant embedded software experience and 5+ years management experience.
Main Duties:
• Work closely with department heads to identify the requirements for new software programs.
• To develop software for customers, identify market requirements and review the performance of existing competitive programs.
• If developing software for internal use, identify the functional requirements of the departments that will use the programs.
• Produce a product development strategy that gives the software team a clear sense of direction.
• Ensure that teams have access to the resources they need, such as computing systems, development tools and communications.
• Manage the department budget and continuous improvement projects to deliver new capability.
• Resource requirements vary at different stages of software development, so the Software Manager will monitor progress to ensure that the team does not encounter obstacles.
• Work closely with the Project Manager(s) to monitor progress against intermediate and final development targets.
• Conduct regular team meetings to review progress and to identify potential obstacles to completion.
• Monitor quality to ensure that products meet their technical and business objectives.
• In addition to regular development team meetings, schedule meetings with other stakeholders, such as department managers and marketing professionals to update them on the project and obtain feedback.
