The Wildlife Trusts is a grassroots movement of people from a wide range of backgrounds and all walks of life, who share a set of common beliefs. It has more than of 850,000 members, including 200,000 junior members, 38,000 volunteers and 2,800 staff across the UK across 46 locally independent Wildlife Trusts and the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT). We work in every part of the UK, on Alderney and the Isle of Man. The movement’s central charity RSWT leads the development of the movement and represents the interests of the movement whenever a strong united voice is required. Together, the 46 Trusts and the central charity are known as The Wildlife Trusts.

The Wildlife Trusts are developing a new Partnership Strategy that reflects the challenge of the climate and biodiversity crises we face. As part of this new strategic ambition, we need to be able to collect, store and analyse geographic data, providing common GIS resources for the Wildlife Trusts and develop cross-Wildlife Trust regional, nation and UK data. The post supports three of the five major transformations that the strategy will facilitate:

  • Levelling up: Supporting and developing Wildlife Trusts as strong and effective independent actors. The level of GIS sophistication across the Trusts is variable. We need to ensure that all WTs have access to effective GIS functionality.
  • Effective movement: Working effectively as a distributed network and collective movement. Securing nature’s recovery across the UK, Alderney and Isle of Man requires data collection and analysis at a range of spatial levels – local, county, nation and UK – requiring spatial data management to work across Wildlife Trust boundaries.
  • Digital transformation: Undergoing a ‘root and branch’ digital transformation including a transformation in the Wildlife Trusts’ ability to deploy spatial data.

The Wildlife Trusts value courage, respect, integrity, trust and responsibility. Whilst we are passionate in promoting our aims, we are not judgemental and are inclusive. We want our people to be as diverse as nature, so we particularly encourage applications from people who are underrepresented within our sector, including people from minority backgrounds and people with disabilities. We are committed to creating a movement that recognises and truly values individual differences and identities.

As a Disability Confident employer, we are committed to offering an interview to anyone with a disability that meets all the essential criteria for the post. Please let us know if you require any adjustments to make our recruitment process more accessible
