The Role
Located at our main site in Maryport the role of Supervisor will be managing a dedicated Team.

The role will Instruct, supervise and monitor Electrical Operatives and/or Electrical Contractors working on our clients housing stock ensuring that any electrical Installations which are worked on are safe for continued use to safeguard the service users, members of the public, clients personnel and Mears employees from any potential danger associated with electricity.


Responsibilities of the role:

  • Supervise and oversee electrical work carried out by branch electrical operatives and/or by any sub-contractors.
  • Be the main point of contact between Mears General/Branch managers and supervisors, Electrical Contractors and where appropriate the client.
  • Ensure that Inspection and Testing is carried out on ALL electrical work, checking that all results are accurate and complete.
  • Carry out regular Quality Audits and Competence Assessments of the electrical operatives and electrical contractors.
  • Meet regularly with electrical contractors and to record all discussion points ensuring that any issues are dealt with promptly.
  • Deliver regular Tool Box Talks of an electrical/SHE nature, either as indicated by Technical Compliance or from findings of audits, certification issues or as requested by electrical operatives or others.
  • Attend informal and formal meetings and training sessions to ensure up to date business and job knowledge, communication, skills & progression are maintained. This includes but is not limited to training, re-training, toolbox talks, 1:1's, probation reviews etc.
  • Adopt a professional manner when communicating with service users and/or client/external contacts to build and maintain a positive view of Mears Group. This includes but is not limited to appearance, company ID, communication.
  • Highlight any safeguarding concerns to the relevant customer and community officer within branch as early as possible to ensure they liaise with the client in accordance with the safeguarding policy.
  • Use and maintain company vehicle/van in accordance with company vehicle & insurance policies in order to ensure safety, compliance, accurate and timely reporting of damage, cleanliness & condition (inside and out). This includes but is not limited to daily photographic recording of condition.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for a proven professional who has established commercial experience in a similar sector. Essential to the role is Knowledge of Domestic properties and associated electrical Installations.

Good understanding of current legislation, Building Control requirements and Governing body (NICEIC) requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • An electrical core qualification such as :
  • C&G 2360 Parts 1&2 or equivalent, or holds a NVQ Level 3 qualification. Consideration will be given to anyone that holds C&G 2330 or C&G 2357 depending upon the experience of the potential electrician in Domestic/Commercial/Industrial type work depending on the job role. However they must be willing to take steps to complete the NVQ level 3 qualification
  • C&G 2382-10/12 or 2382-20 or 2382-15 (17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations)
  • From January 2019 C&G 2382 - 18 (18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations)
  • Or an equivalent qualification for any of the above

Essential Experience

  • Knowledge of Domestic properties and associated electrical Installations.
  • Good understanding of current legislation, Building Control requirements and Governing body (NICEIC) requirements
  • Time served apprentice or a person who has undertaken a number of years gaining experience in a domestic setting both in a training facility and on-site.
  • NB Electricians who have only undertaken a college course and who has had no experience working on site will not be considered for a role with Mears
  • The ability to communicate on a one-to-one basis and produce information in a written form, including completion of all necessary work documentation.
  • Clear and legible hand writing as others will need to check recorded testing results
  • Other attributes
  • Good written & verbal communication skills in English with excellent Numeracy skills.
  • Able to understand & follow standard operating procedures.
  • A full current Driving Licence and able to work alone or as part of a team.

Additional Information
The Electrical QS's role is challenging and the pressures made on them by their general managers, the compliance team, peers and others can at times be demanding therefore the ability to work under pressure is important.
The QS has a lot of responsibilities when undertaking or supervising electrical work and/or Inspection and Testing, as accuracy and commitment to doing the work correctly in a timely manner is critical.
There will be times when the applicant will have to work in properties which are occupied by vulnerable service users, uncooperative service users and animals.
The post holder will ensure that no discrimination is shown and that all people are treated as equals.
Where the post holder is disabled, every effort will be made to supply all the necessary aids, adaptations or equipment to allow them to carry out all the duties of the job. If however, a certain task proves to be unachievable, job redesign will be pursued.
