Residential Childcare Worker
As Genus Care is owned by the people who run the company on the inside, we make 'child focused, person centred' decisions- not financial or political ones.We aim to positively change the lives of all children living with us, to realise their full and often undiscovered potential whilst at the same time keeping them safe, educating them and sticking by them. We will go the extra yard (or mile) to achieve success.
Whilst offering 1:1 staffing ratios, full-time registered education, individualised therapeutic programmes ('It's My Life'), community inclusion and, above all, the opportunity for all young people to truly 'grow with us', we have a simple philosophy which is based entirely on the needs and best interests of the child: Once they come to live with us we will not fail them by ending their placement either unnecessarily or before the conclusion of their care and support plan.
This philosophy comes from a determination to put an end to the merry-go-round of placement after placement that many looked after children get stuck on. To grow one must first have roots and nobody puts down roots if they routinely move.

We are currently recruiting for a Residential Care Workers for our Residential Home in Blackmill Bridgend to work with young people aged 9-18 who have been placed in our care by the Local Authority. These young people have had a very difficult start in life through no fault of their own and can display challenging behaviour from being let down so badly.
Our aim is to end the constant merry go round of frequent placement moves and to offer the children a stable, safe and nurturing environment to enable them to put down roots and be a part of the local community where they can reach their full potential and thrive. To do this we need dedicated people who can build genuine relationships and offer them opportunities that they've never had. This includes good education from our qualified Teachers at our on site Schools for children who don't attend mainstream education. Activities, having fun, trips and holidays away, supported family contact, independence, joining social groups, therapeutic work to help recover from past trauma, excellent policies and procedures and personal plans and excellent staff training.
If you are caring, hard- working, happy, positive, have a good sense of humour, imaginative, love children and having fun and a challenge and would like to be part of changing children's lives for the better, whilst being their support network, parent and friend, then this is the job for you. This is a challenging but very rewarding role.
You will be part of a very supportive, qualified and experienced network of people and given all the training you need to support you in the role which includes a Level 2 and 3 Diploma so you can become qualified whist doing the job. Care work was always an industry that you didn't have to have qualifications for, however it has now become a recognised profession with long term career aspects. There will be promotional opportunities after one year of employment. These roles include It's my life co-ordinators, Assistant Managers and Home Managers. All of our staff started as RCW's and we only promote within so all senior Managers have an excellent understanding and knowledge of the role as well as being qualified.
We want all our employees to grow with us as our children do so we are committed to their training and development to have a long happy career. We believe that if you invest in people they will be happy in their job, thrive and do well which in turn means happier children and a great organisation to be a part of. There is no experience necessary (but would be beneficial).
You will be expected to register with Social Care Wales within 6 months and complete a Diploma Level 3 in Health & Social Care Children and Young people within 3 years of employment, attend full and half day training courses and personal planning meetings which is funded by the company and fully supported by our Training Manager.
