We are looking for an Assistant Manager to join the team. The Assistant Manager will work across two retail sites and a number of markets. They will be supporting our Market Operations Manager in all aspects to run our fast-paced business. Retail experience and the ability to drive is essential.

Our story: we started on a market stall 10 years ago and since then we have grown into a thriving wholesale bakery. Today we have a team of 60 people working across London and out of our Head Office in Hackney Wick. Our market business is at the heart of our operations and key part of our business.

We currently run 11 Market Stalls across London, and two retail locations with future expansion plans already in place. Therefore, this position requires a flexible person with lots of common sense, Barista experience, and excellent customer service, with a full driving license and ideally experience using a van.

The right candidate will receive full training and support on joining the business.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the day to day operations/rhythm and routine of the Markets & Joe Blake's Operations

  • Drive a van for our different routes to deliver equipment and stock for our different locations

  • Setting Up Market Stalls (together with staff) & packing down

  • Supporting staff during trading hours, engaging with customers, upselling key products and promoting our brand

  • Ongoing Staff Training, including barista training

  • Supervise our retail coffee locations to ensure sites are up to standards

  • Updating and ensuring that Cleaning Rotas and Opening & Closing Routines are performed correctly

  • Performing Stocktakes of Consumables and sorting out equipment for the different Markets

  • Reporting to Manager and regular meetings with the Director

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A sincere and empathetic approach to leadership to develop a self-motivated working culture

  • Comfortable working autonomously, making your own decisions while also collaborating and communicating with a diverse, distributed team

  • Analytical approach to managing sales and targets

  • The ability to influence and build relationships at a senior level with Market Managers.

  • Experience in delivering training, gained from previous hospitality/retail jobs

  • Good problem-solving skills

  • Ability to prioritise and work to timescales

  • Organised, detail orientated & work well with deadlines and under pressure

  • A professional attitude and proactive approach to meeting set standard

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • A full driving license is required as this is a field-based role (maximum of 3 points).

  • Availability to work flexible hours from Monday to Sunday (early shifts)
