Principal Ecologist & Team Lead

Location: South Wales with home : office working balance

Excellent Salary and Benefits package


Purpose

To manage and develop a small Ecological Consultancy Team, including the provision of expert advice and business development fro a wide variety of interesting projects.


Responsibilities

Reporting to the Managing Director, this role involves:

  1. Managing and developing a team of ecological consultants including trainees and experienced ecologists
  2. Developing and delivering a training programme for each ecological consultant as required
  3. Coordinating and delivering consultancy services (written and verbal advice), including the attendance at meetings as required
  4. Providing a high level of technical expertise and support across the practice including the preparation and submission of mitigation licence applications and ecological impact assessments including EcIA and HRA
  5. Responsibility for the processes and procedures of the Ecological Consultancy Team, ensuring process documents are kept up to date as required by the Quality Management System (QMS)
  6. Preparing, reviewing and issuing quotations, tenders and bids
  7. Actively seeking to win new business and retain existing clients
  8. Assisting the Director(s) and Office Manager in the management, development and growth of the practice including contributing to the strategic direction of the company and other business plans.


Requirements - Essential

  • Excellent client engagement and communication skills
  • Proven experience of managing and mentoring teams
  • Pragmatic and technically minded
  • Possession of at least two EPS survey licences
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce meticulous and accurate technical reports including EPSL applications, EcIA chapters and Habitat Regulation Assessments
  • Proven experience of obtaining EPS mitigation licences in both England and Wales
  • Proven track record of developing new business
  • Knowledge and experience of health and safety issues and risk assessments
  • Demonstrable ability to liaise and work with people at all levels including clients, government bodies and team members
  • In depth knowledge and experience of health, safety, environment and quality management issues
  • Relevant degree
  • Full membership of CIEEM and/or CIEMA
  • Eligibility to work permanently within the UK
  • Full UK driving license with access to own car for business use
  • Ability to work flexibly as required to cover surveys etc outside of normal working hours


Requirements - Advantageous

  • Experience of preparing proof of evidence and/or involvement in public hearings in relation to ecology
  • Additional EPS survey licences
  • Relevant postgraduate degree
  • Chartered Ecologist or Environmentalist status via an approved professional body
  • Financial awareness with the ability to manage budgets
