What it's like to work here

The postholder will work with the Project Manager, project and property teams and other regional specialists to deliver the National Trust's core conservation aims and strategic ambitions through this project in the iconic landscape at Runnymede. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the long-term conservation and engagement work of the Trust, building relationships across the organisation and with important external stakeholders.

Our cause is at the heart of everything we do. We protect and care for places so people and nature can thrive. Our places enrich people's lives and are part of the fabric of society, so we are dedicated to looking after them for everyone, for ever.

The Trust is a supportive, inclusive and enabling employer. We develop and encourage our staff, work closely together, and trust and empower each other to make good decisions. We promote learning and development, treat people fairly, and value the opinions and views of others. We value diversity and are committed to becoming a truly inclusive organisation, with a workforce that reflects the diversity of our society. We strongly encourage and welcome applicants across all identities and backgrounds.

What you'll be doing

In this role you'll be responsible for delivering a suite of capital works including the construction of multi-access paths, landscaping, boardwalks, interpretation and two jetties. It's a challenging but exciting time to shape delivery of these elements at this high profile site. You will work alongside other team members who are overseeing the implementation of an extensive programme of audience engagement work, involving a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in order to successfully deliver the project and ensure its sustainability.

We're looking for a chartered Building Surveyor with experience of sensitively delivering construction works in historic environments. You will work flexibly, be able to prioritise your work, manage expectations and deal with the unexpected. You will be able to set and manage delegated budgets and provide accurate and robust cost and programme forecasts. You will work in a collaborative way with internal and external stakeholders and be skilled at managing contracts and contractors.

To support your professional development you'll be linked with the wider National Trust Building Surveyor community, both regionally and nationally. Travel around London and the South East region may be required from time to time but most of your work will be in the Runnymede area.
