Utilities Design Engineer - Power, Gas & Water

This challenging and exciting opportunity, based in either Yorkshire or the North East, requires a highly talented and experienced design professional possessing demonstrable experience from the utilities sector, and this can be from having worked for a client side or contracting organisation.

Due to an increase in contract awards, a significant forward order workload, and a dedication to continued profitable long-term growth, our client is now seeking to appoint an experienced Utilities Design Engineer to lead and develop a multi-skilled team of engineering colleagues to deliver complex, focussed and detailed designs for all workstream areas. You will also lead the provision of an enhanced level of support to the Operations team to ensure all relevant contractual obligations are met.

The Role, Responsibilities & Requirements

* Enhance current design processes to reduce company risk and liability via formal validation, verification and approval prior to and during construction

* Improve internal processes and procedures to ensure all designs completed are appropriately checked, validated, verified and approved prior to being issued for construction

* Control design liabilities by implementing robust approval procedures to ensure all designs meet performance parameters and client expectations

* Build an operations-based design team to strengthen design capability with regards to resource, training, competence and experience

* Develop competencies to allow the company to be appointed as a Principal Designer under CDM regulations

* Develop and maintain a suite of company design procedures, standards, specifications and guidance documents

* Maintain continuity and consistency of design work for all relevant workstreams, ensuring that delivery timescales and targets are not affected

* Ensure your team of Design Engineers and Technicians are progressively upskilled to meet current and future work programme demands

* Produce evidence that the team are achieving optimised utilization, and are meeting and exceeding client charter targets

* Create a robust quality assurance process for all relevant project, contract or framework designs

* Talent profile all your resources and highlight growth potential in those assessed
