Experienced Gardener
A wonderful opportunity to join the garden team caring for the award-winning Newby Hall Gardens and help further the development of one of the finest privately-owned gardens in the North of England.
Newby Hall has 10 Ha of formal gardens and an additional 30 acres of managed woodland flanking the Hall itself. Created in the 1930s the gardens are now of international renown.
The herbaceous borders form the central feature of the garden alongside compartmentalised gardens and extensive plant collections including the National collection of Cornus.
There are two heritage orchards totalling around 3 Ha and the site is bordered by the River Ure. Opened to the public in the 1950's visitor numbers now are around (phone number removed) per annum with the Hall and Gardens opening from the 1st April through to the last Sunday in September.
Ideally the candidate should have:
A full driving licence
Good plant knowledge
A sound understanding of pruning, planting and border maintenance and an eye for detail.
Experience in the operation of a range of garden machinery and duties such as hedge cutting, strimming and mowing
The ability to manage time and work both independently and as part of a team
A willingness to carry out a range of other gardening tasks as they arise
Good communication skills and a friendly disposition when interacting with visitors to the garden and other employees

Vacancy: Experienced Gardener
Salary: Negotiable and commensurate with experience
Contract Type: The initial contract is for 12 months with the possibility of permanent employment.
Hours: 8am-4.30pm Mon-Fri; (weekend watering on a rota)
