WANTED – Development Worker

 

1 Year contract initially - 6 hours a week or 24 hours a month - £13 an hour plus travel and administrative costs, to be worked flexibly (mostly evenings). Start Date September 1st 2021.

 

Aims of the Four Rivers Dementia Alliance (4RDA) are: to improve the lives of people living with dementia, their families and carers in the 4RDA in Ivybridge and the surrounding 19 parishes from Bickleigh to Wembury, and Ringmore to Rattery; to raise awareness; to reduce stigma; to share ideas; to promote good practice; to share and develop resources; to develop partnership projects; and to build dementia friendly communities and villages in the 4RDA area.

The role of the Development Worker is to further the aims of the Four Rivers Dementia Alliance.

Definition of the Four Rivers Dementia Alliance (4RDA):

4RDA is a collaboration of people from |vybridge and rural communities in the 4RDA area (Plym, Yealm Erme & Avon) and any interested people or organisations.

 

We recognise the great diversity among individuals living with dementia, their families and carers. We promote their inclusion in all areas of community life, respect their decisions and lifestyle choice, anticipate and respond flexibly to their dementia related needs and preferences.

 

Role of the Development Worker

  • To encourage change and to promote socially inclusive dementia friendly communities for people living with dementia, their families and carers in Ivybridge and the parishes of Bickleigh, Shaugh Prior, Sparkwell, Brixton, Wembury, Newton & Noss, Yealmpton, Ermington, Cornwood, Harford, Ermington, Ugborough, South Brent, Rattery, North Huish, Diptford, Modbury, Kingston and Ringmore.

Tasks

  • To promote and develop dementia awareness and inclusive dementia friendly communities across the area by liaising with the Town and Parish Councils and, where possible, with other relevant community organisations e.g. Health Centres, WI, NFU, faith groups, transport services, voluntary groups, and local businesses including shops, pubs, Post Offices, hairdressers, garden centres, clubs, etc.

  • To understand and promote awareness of current government and local initiatives in dementia awareness and dementia friendly communities.

  • To listen to the views of people, particularly those living with dementia their families and carers, and where possible promote and encourage changes as required in the community.

  • To report regularly to the Four Rivers Dementia Alliance committee at their 6 weekly meetings for approximately 2 hrs on a weekday afternoon, who will then update the South Hams Dementia Forum.

  • To act as an advocate for the Four Rivers Dementia Alliance with the statutory, independent and voluntary agencies.

  • To promote and take part in any research and evaluation of the role.

  • To be responsible to the Chairman and committee of the Alliance.
