Data Scientist / Machine Learning (Python) - Permanent - Edinburgh

Head Resourcing is currently recruiting for an experienced Data Scientist for our prestigious client in the investments industry in Edinburgh. Our client is looking for a Data Science specialist to join their newly formed Health Innovation AI team; this inter-disciplinary team is highly innovative and forward looking and its goal is to develop a suite of intelligent applications that will support their Health Innovation investment strategy team in their investment process. The aim of the team is to use artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyse a wide variety of datasets, such as company news, annual reports, valuations, scientific literature and more, and provide actionable insights to the investors.

You will bring demonstrable knowledge of data science and machine learning and assist in developing and delivering solutions for problems that can be solved using techniques from these fields; you will be working closely with investment professionals and system developers to help put your work into production. Responsibilities:

- Assist in developing robust and practical solutions employing data science and machine learning techniques

- Work with business stakeholders to understand their challenges and help shape solutions

- Be involved in the whole development process, from design to implementation into production

- Develop data science and machine learning skills of colleagues working on the Health Innovation AI project and assist in building the capability more widely across the firm

Essential:
- Ideally an MSc or PhD in computer science, statistics or related quantitative subjects, alternatively extensive professional experience in a related role

- Professional experience of working as a Data Scientist or similar role

- Strong working knowledge of machine learning models and data mining techniques

- Python programming experience

- Experience of working with SQL databases and other types of data stores

- Proven track record of taking machine learning solutions into production

- Solid background in artificial intelligence and a wide array of standard machine learning techniques

- Extensive familiarity with relevant areas of statistics and probability theory

Desirable:
- Experience in Natural Language Processing and/or analysing textual data using machine learning

- Familiarity with application architecture

- Familiarity with Cloud platforms such as Azure Cloud
