Assistant Quarry Operations Manager (Ref: 10248)

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Quarry Operations Manager to effectively supervise and coordinate all site operations at our Eastern Way Sand and Gravel Quarry in Leighton Buzzard. Garside Sands produce a range of graded sands and associated products for a variety of specialist sectors. Typical applications include water filtration, brick manufacture, sports pitches and
horticulture with sand being exported all over the world due to its unique properties.

About the role

You will be responsible for managing all quarry operations, alongside the Quarry Supervisor, as well as the training and development of staff, health and safety management of all colleagues in addition to procurement and budgetary control.

Elements to the role include:

* Ensure that Health & Safety across the function is a priority and that all Safety Management Systems in place fully comply with Group and Legislative standards

* Act as the Statutory 8.1.(d) with temporary duties on site in order to maintain a statutory presence

* Maintain financial performance of the site in line with budget requirements ensuring processes are implemented to report all information required for accounting purposes

* Implement and ensure compliance of the company's Health and Safety Rules, Health and Safety policies, Environmental Policy, Site Specific Rules and to ensure that all activities under your control are conducted within the requirements of current legislation

* To operate the quarry in accordance with the planning permission and any other environmental permits

* To ensure quarry operations are carried out in accordance with the geotechnical assessment and quarry design plan

* Ensure there is a suitable and sufficient appraisal of all proposed and existing excavations or tips at the quarry in order to determine whether they represent a significant hazard

* Ensure operation are carried out in a manner which minimises their environmental impact on the surrounding and our near neighbours

* Instigating Incident investigations in the area of your control in an accurate, methodical, detailed way ensuring that it complies with the company and other regulatory standards ensuring that line management is kept informed within the required timescales

* Ensuring that key government health and safety legislation (Quarries Regulations 1999 and Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Quarries) Regulations 2008) is implemented throughout the site

* Effective utilisation of all plant, equipment and facilities under your control to ensure optimum REE

* Ensure that staff are managed effectively by following HR requirements such as dialogue, job review and performance and absence management

* To ensure that Production targets are achieved within the timescales and cost restraints as set by the Area Operations Manager in order to meet customer demand

* Understanding of Quarry Regulations, Statutory Health & Safety and Employment legislation

* Demonstrable experience of a similar or equivalent role

* Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relations with others

* Detail and results orientated with strong personal values to succeed

* Understanding of budgets and financial responsibility

* Be able to plan and prioritise effectively

* Experience of working as part of a highly functioning team
