Systems Engineer - RAL Space
Salary: GBP31,931 to GBP34,709 per annum (plus additional annual allowance dependent on experience)
Location: Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time

We have an incredibly exciting opportunity within RAL Space (part of STFC) for two space systems engineers to join us in supporting a growing number of ongoing and new programmes in our Space Engineering and Technology Division. You will be providing technical leadership on a range of projects involving ground support, calibration and commissioning of flight hardware at all stages of the space project lifecycle from pre-project feasibility studies through to flight operations.

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is one of Europe's largest multi-disciplinary science research organisations.
Our RAL Space department is the UK's national space laboratory and has around 350 staff. Our activities and our facilities enable scientific research in disciplines such as climate science, space weather and astronomy. With over 50 years of experience in space programmes, we have had significant involvement in more than 210 instruments on missions to date.

Main duties of the role would include:
* Systems Engineering input to existing and future space projects
* Involvement in conceptual instrument design for future space projects
* Involvement in requirement definition and flow down process
* Detailed project work in planning, executing and reporting of tests, verification and calibration activities
* Commissioning and operation of space hardware
* Involvement in preparation of proposals for future lines of work
* Investigation of future ideas with academic and industrial partners
About you:
You will have an undergraduate degree in Engineering or Physics (or equivalent) and expertise in one space related engineering discipline. You will also have a knowledge of at least one additional space related engineering discipline, along with Aerospace or science research project experience. Systems engineering experience on aerospace or scientific instrument development projects is essential along with experience with design and/or analysis software tools. You will have strong communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to manage a busy workload with competing project time demands. Having strong analytical skills with the ability to lead and be a proactive team member is key.
