Your opportunity
Discover, investigate, influence. Our sharp, analytical minds are relied upon to ensure that Deloitte operates safely in an increasingly complex regulatory environment. Are you up to the challenge?

We are part of a national department, operating out of both our Cardiff & London offices, and form a division of the firm's Quality, Risk & Security (QRS) function. The main focus of QRS is the support to our client facing colleagues across the UK firm and Deloitte network.

Operating in a highly regulated environment, Deloitte is required to ensure the Firm, as well as our Partners and staff, attain independence from our audit clients. The Independence team is responsible for ensuring the firm meets these obligations through monitoring of the business relationships and scope of service requests, as well as assisting our Partners and staff to maintain their own personal compliance obligations in respect of financial interests and arrangements.

Your role
This role offers the opportunity to work in a challenging yet rewarding environment, developing your regulatory knowledge, specifically around auditor independence requirements, whilst liaising with internal customers of all grades across the firm, giving the individual exposure to senior people within the firm's leadership. The role may also bring opportunities to engage with colleagues in other Deloitte member firms as well as at the global level through DTTL.

Independence is an area of continued scrutiny by regulators and the work we do evolves with the frequent changes in regulatory demands, as such your role will also evolve and adapt to ensure we maintain compliance and work efficiently.

Given the nature of this position, you will be handling highly confidential information, including personal information, requiring enhanced confidentiality terms to be accepted.

Including, but not limited to:
• Working within tight deadlines, updating and administering the firm's monitoring systems ensuring any regulatory restrictions are applied and communicated, highlighting any areas of non-compliance.
• Assisting with documenting, reviewing, analysing and bringing to conclusion requests regarding potential new scope of service, business relationships or personal investments/financial arrangements.
• Researching corporate entities and financial instruments to ensure accuracy of information held within our systems of quality control.
• Extensively liaising with internal stakeholders and customers, building excellent relationships and providing valuable input into the independence requirements relative to their circumstance.
• Providing ad-hoc support to the wider Risk Management organisation as may be required from time to time.
• Work effectively in diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where individuals are recognised for their contribution.

Your work, your choice
At Deloitte we believe the best impact is the value we add, not the hours we sit at our desk. We carefully consider agile ways of working, both formal and informal, that allow for the best impact for our people and our clients. Please speak to your recruiter about the working pattern that works best for you.

Location: You will be based in our Cardiff office at Fusion Point 2. There may be scope for occasional travel to our London office.

Work pattern: This is a 14 month fixed term contract.

Your professional experience
Our analysts come from a wide range of backgrounds, sometimes with little or no prior experience of financial services. What connects us is our enquiring minds and our ability to deliver a great service. We are looking for individuals with:

• Ability to conduct research whilst managing sensitive personal information discreetly
• Ability to multi-task conflicting demands and work with minimal supervision
• Ability to work with initiative within agreed processes, manage workload effectively and meet deadlines
• Effective judgement and decision making skills
• Meticulous attention to detail and focus on quality
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to learn understand and apply the firm's independence policies and guidance
• Customer service mindset and experience in dealing with difficult situations
• Ability to work within a team, understanding the roles and focus of the wider team

Additional desirable, but not essential, experience includes:
• Experience of working in a regulated environment
• Pension & financial product knowledge
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office package (Training time will be allowed for adaptation to in-house IT tools)

Your service line: Quality, Risk and Security
The Quality, Risk and Security (QRS) community is an overarching identity for all of the professionals who manage quality and risk for Deloitte. It comprises: Deloitte Business Security (DBS), National Quality and Risk Management (NQRM) and Service Line Quality and Risk Management teams (including Switzerland), and is led by a dedicated partner who sits on the firm's Executive. Within QRS, we use our skills and experience across a variety of disciplines to support a risk intelligent culture at Deloitte; enabling our partners and practitioners to deliver high quality services to their clients, minimising the administrative burden on our people, and acting as custodians of firm risk, security, ethics and reputation.

Personal independence
Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints...
