We are looking to recruit a Metallurgist at our site in Somerset, to provide technical knowledge and develop the metallographic capabilities of the site.

Qualifications and Skills

* Degree Qualified in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or similar engineering field.

* Proven experience with casting in a foundry environment.

* Working knowledge of heat and corrosion resistant stainless-steel alloys.

* Experience with mechanical and materials testing.

* Metallurgical understanding including spectrographic analysis, microstructure analysis.

* A subject matter expert for casting nickel-chromium steel alloys.

* Understanding the effects of alloying additions.

* Strong organisation skills, adaptable and able to work under pressure to tight timescales across multiple concurrent workstreams.

* Proactive and strong team player with excellent communication skills able to communicate with multi-disciplined teams.

Job Role

* Be point of metallurgical knowledge to all other departments.

* Own and maintain the laboratory ISO17025:2017 accreditation system.

* Own the Laboratory contract review system.

* Responsible for despatching samples for outsourced testing

* As happy in a hands-on role at the furnace, training furnace operators or in a laboratory as with writing professional reports.

* Designing and participating in plant trials, new alloy development and process change to meet customer specification, leading the product development cycle from conception through to full scale production and commercialisation

* Evaluating new and existing raw materials and their impact on plant and product quality

* Managing all internal and external testing Laboratory testing (Radiography, Dye Penetrant, Chemical analysis, Charpy, Elevated tensile, Hardness etc)

* Implement, manage, training of furnace men in good melting practices.

Desirable Experience

* Knowledge of metallurgy and welding.

* Familiarity with metallurgy, material selection for aerospace, heat treatment, Power generation applications.

* Radiography inspection

* Penetrant inspection

* Ultrasonic inspection
