Axcis Education are on the hunt for experienced community outreach workers for a number of roles at a Paignton based special needs school. The school provides educational support to a number of students dealing with social and emotional mental health (SEMH), trauma, autism and ADHD on a 1:1 basis around the community. These students are in KS3 and KS4 and require additional support to continue their learning journey. The students all have an ECHP and have adapted their studies with the aim of achieving GCSE's or equivalent qualifications.
As Youth Outreach Worker you will be supporting the students with their lesson plans outside of the school within a public environment such as a libary on a 1-1 basis.
Your role as an outreach worker will include:
" Supporting the student to achieve both personal and educational goals.
" Discuss options available to them when leaving education
" Promote social and emotional awareness along with independence.
As an outreach worker you will be expected to:
" Manage challenging behaviour in a proactive manner rather than a reactive manner.
" Report and record any safeguarding concerns or behavioural challenges.
" Support the individual to gain confidence within themselves.
Experience working in a PRU, special school or young offenders environment and supporting young people who present challenging behaviours is essential as this is a very tough environment. You must be very resilient and be able to react positively and effective to bad behaviour. You should have experience within a classroom setting and be able to build and maintain strong, professional relationships to ensure the progression of the student.
This is a long-term role lasting until end of the summer term 2020 and possibly extending into the following academic year. The ability to be able to commit for the long-term is essential.
Hours are 8.30 to 3.30 Monday to Friday. This role pays GBP80 per day.
If you are interested, then please contact Tamsin Nee at Axcis Education.
