Electrical and Controls Engineer
cGBP35k - 40k neg dep exp + generous benefits
East Midlands - Leicester / Coventry / Nottingham / Warwickshire
Our Leicester based client can demonstrate almost half a century's expertise in the design, development and manufacture of bespoke automation and robotic systems for a diverse range of industry sectors and are regarded by many in the industry as one of the leading automation system solution providers in the whole of the UK.
As a result of continued success and a planned programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced electrical and control systems engineer to complement their established and successful team and deliver machine control system solutions for an array of special purpose machinery projects.
Tasked with undertaking the creation of clear and concise electrical documentation using ePlan including detailed circuit diagrams, control panel design and BOM's, the successful electrical and controls engineer candidate will be responsible for ensuring machine electrical and safety systems comply with the requirements of the machinery directives and appropriate national, European and international safety standards as applicable.
Drawing on your proven experience, you will be responsible for the accurate selection and procurement of relevant components and for the project delivery of electrical systems (including control cabinets and machine wiring) within both time and budgetary constraints, and will supervise a team of electrical technicians and control the build of machine control systems in line with customer requirements.
Other duties will include (but not be limited to) undertaking fault finding of control and safety systems in both the Head Office environment and at customer sites around the UK and occasionally abroad, developing machine processes to achieve performance requirements and commissioning the machine control systems and performing machine testing including FAT and SAT testing with customers, as well as leading the development of the company's control system solution and both adopting and developing a standardised approach to the delivery of efficient and cost effective control system solutions.
You will also assist with installation, commissioning and troubleshooting activities as well as enhancements, modifications and upgrades when required and provide training to operators and customer engineers on site, and provide post installation customer support and servicing of mechanical and electrical systems, so flexibility to travel to customer sites throughout the UK and beyond as required and at short notice if required is essential for the position, as well as being prepared to work the hours required to complete the job satisfactorily.
To be considered for this varied and challenging electrical and controls engineer role, you will essentially demonstrate at least 5 years previous experience gained within an electrical and safety system design environment allied to machine automation solutions, and will realistically be degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant electrical, electronic or control system engineering discipline.
Excellent communication and customer facing skills are critical for the electrical and controls engineer position along with a flexible approach to travel and working hours, with demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the various national European and international electrical standards for machine design and machine safety systems also being required.
You will be proficient in conducting machine risk assessments and ensuring compliance with safety standards including Sistema or equivalent, with knowledge of ePlan and software design and PLC coding experience (Omron, Siemens, B&R, Mitsubishi, Rockwell) proving distinctly advantageous, as would experience of integrating and programming of Scara, Delta and 6-axis robots.
