Research Computing Manager - HPC Management and Research Computing, Linux operating systems and a wide range of software applications, is this where your skills and experience lie?, are you considering a move or seeking a new opportunity with a renowned and prestigious organisation in the Milton Keynes area?
As Research Computing Manager, you'll report directly to the Head of IT Infrastructure and manage a small, passionate, team of HPC specialists that provide vital support to the IT function and moreover wider organisation. Based from home for the foreseeable future, but ideally living within an hour's drive of Milton Keynes, your role will see you ensuring the advanced research computing facilities and associated resources are developed, managed, operated and supported efficiently. You'll also work with internal stakeholders to further develop and optimise the take up of facilities across the organisation, while providing technical support and advice to the wider user base.
As Research Computing Manager, working collaboratively with the wider team, you'll be responsible for:
* Support and technical advice for HPC systems, services and software
* The development and implementation of the HPC environment and strategy (including both physical/virtual and cloud based systems
* The efficient performance and use of HPC systems
* Installation, maintenance and testing
* Writing and updating user documentation
* Staff mentoring and management
Ideally with a computer science based or related degree, it's essential that you possess extensive working knowledge of Linux operating system, including application scripting with command shells or a similar language. A Research Computing Manager with strong experience managing a HPC cluster, you'll also have good working knowledge of various specialist engineering or research computing software applications such as Matalab or equivalent, Panassas Storage, Python, Perl, PBS Professional and others.
Your excellent verbal and written inter-personal skills will also be key, as will be strong analytical skills, along with accuracy, attention to detail and a high level of self-organisation and multi-tasking capability.
On offer in return is a salary of cGBP50,000 - GBP60,000 per annum, though negotiable subject to experience, along with benefits that include up to 33 days annual leave, flexible working a generous contributory pension scheme, along with other benefits.
