Our client is a UK leading manufacturer of animal feed based across five sites in the UK, they pride themselves on service and quality being the highest standard and to achieve this they also need the best people in their business. With recent growth and the acquisition of a new site we are recruiting an Operational FLM.

You will ultimately be responsible for leading the mill team to carry out the efficient operation of all aspects of the feed mill production system, ensuring all relevant Health & Safety and quality control procedures relating to the production of compound animal feed are adhered to in order to deliver business objectives. Deputising for the Mill Manager as required.

Responsibilities

* Lead and implement Health and Safety policies and procedures ensuring compliance with legislation and aligned to best practice.

* Lead the mill team, driving consistently excellent performance to deliver KPI's for Safety, Quality, Service and Cost.

* Responsibility for core decision making during day to day activities, escalating complex matters to the mill management team where necessary. Lead daily production meetings.

* Promote an inclusive culture, focussing on employee engagement in order to deliver business objectives.

* Support mill with compliance matters, complete and update compliance calendar including information relating to Health & Safety and Environmental factors. Lead in audit standards and ensure corrective processes are in place to address non-conformances.

* Ensure raw material requirements are met by supporting stock takes and completion of all associated documentation, proactively seeking solutions where abnormalities occur to prevent a negative impact on production and quality standards.

* Manage team performance, setting targets, undertaking regular appraisals. Dealing with absence, capability and disciplinary matters.

* Assist in co-ordinating the activities of workers and the daily operation of the feed mill. This will involve daily stock takes and completion of statutory records and production sheets.

* Assess requirements and co-ordinate with other operational areas to allocate resources to meet changing business and customer needs.

* Liaise with the Engineering department to address breakdowns or interruptions to production to minimise downtime. Where required, conduct basic level routine maintenance and assist the engineering team where possible.

* Liaise with the Hygiene team to ensure environment is safe and clean to prevent a negative impact on quality standards.

* Lead and implement key projects and initiatives as required in order to deliver business objectives.

* Drive continuous improvement, proactively reviewing current methodology and opportunities to improve the sites efficiency, safety, quality and performance.

* Undertake any reasonable task related to the operation of the mill as required and as directed by the management team.

Qualifications & Experience

* Relevant management qualification preferred.

* Qualification/Apprenticeship in a relevant field preferred.

* Strong experience within a team-based manufacturing/production environment, working with strict safety and quality control procedures and KPI's.

* Good experience of proactively working within a lean manufacturing site.

* Experience of managing accident reporting systems, undertaking investigations and implementing corrective actions.

This is a days role Monday-Friday but may include some flexibility.

In return my client are offering a salary of cGBP40,000 - GBP44,000 + Benefits, 25 Days Holiday plus bank holidays.
