Senior Buyer Transport, Flexible Working Location,18 Months Fixed Term Contract
We are a leading technology company and specialist in the design, build, support and management of the UK's critical digital infrastructure, drawing on decades of experience in mission critical communications and technology.
With current annual revenues in excess of GBP400M and 2,400 employees. We operate within various industry sectors including Rail, Traffic, Public Safety, Defence, Service Providers, Enterprise and Public Sector.
To help limit the amount of face to face contact during the recruitment process, we will now do more online assessments and use Teams/Conf Calls for interviews wherever possible.
Role Profile:
We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and motivated procurement professional into a new role in the Team. The successful candidate will focus on providing category management and sourcing activities to our exciting new joint venture bid to deliver digital communications solutions for the UK Transport sector with an initial focus on High-Speed Rail (see Telent's website - News Items).
Typical Deliverables:
The role will deliver procurement outcomes in support of the Transport Business Partner working across the Transport vertical business. Specifically;
Support the strategic development, creation and delivery of supply chain solutions into the Telent/Thales Joint Venture (TTJV) as part of the agreed joint HS2 opportunities
Support supply chain solutions for other HS2 opportunities where Telent is bidding separately
Provide supply chain solutions for critical new bid activities across Rail, Highways and Asset management covering key Telent customers such as TfL, Network Rail and Highways England.
Provide procurement expertise for supply chain activities underpinning existing Telent customer contracts across Transport.
Support ongoing development of the Procurement Function including the new e-Procurement tool, SRM and contract management.
Reporting to the Transport Business Partner/Senior Procurement Manager in Telent Technology Services Limited, you will be an integral part of the existing Category Management team across the Transport Categories. You will have responsibility for specific procurement projects within the team, primarily focused on the forthcoming HS2 activities and also as agreed with the Business Partner and Senior Category Managers. You will work across a range of equipment, materials and services and will develop and implement procurement solutions in support of both the TTJV and Telent's bids and projects. You will work as part of the team to deliver significant efficiencies and cost savings across the categories.
We'd be delighted to hear from you if you have the following skills/experience:
Must have 5+ years procurement experience in a senior buyer role, ideally in a related market
Proven knowledge of Procurement practices in a customer led business environment
Experience of working within a bid driven environment
A deep understanding of category strategy
A genuine appreciation and understanding of procurement process, practices and the value that Procurement can bring
A track record in savings delivery within a Procurement organisation
Advanced levels in MS office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ability to manage Teams meetings
Excellent interpersonal skills
Degree / HND / HNC or equivalent in an appropriate discipline
Fully MCIPS Qualified or actively working towards achieving same within 12 months
Depth and breadth of experience may be taken into account in lieu of full qualifications outlined above
