BBS Recruitment is currently recruiting for Communications & Engagement Officer in a temp position for our client based in Bristol. The successful candidate should be a proactive and hardworking individual with prior experience within a role.

Job Purpose and Context

This role will sit within the Strategic Communications team but will work closely to help deliver the aims and objectives of the StreetCare, Transport and Waste division. This role will take a proactive approach to engaging with residents and communicating changes. This in turn will help manage resident expectations of changes, reduce customer contact and help embed the changes, ensuring savings can be made.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise staff on a day-to-day basis including absence monitoring, appraisals, training and recruitment ensuring that team members receive ongoing training, support and development.

• Research, analyse and evaluate information which may include legislative and regulatory areas to enhance decision making. Provide good technical advice to customers ensuring that procedures and good practice are shared.

• Support the delivery of designated areas of work by co-ordinating day to day operations and contribute to developing projects and processes.

• Ensure customers are well informed and that information provided is useful, relevant and given on time.

• Contribute both to the monitoring of projects and reporting on cost effectiveness and quality standards and to the establishing, implementing and reviewing service standards and performance measures.

• Ensure that accurate records are developed, maintained and that this information is assessed and analysed.

• Establish good working relationships with customers which will lead to strong standards being established and developed at all levels.

• Communicate changes in policy and working practice to keep customers up to date and ensure all procedures and systems are updated accordingly.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• You will have or be able to achieve a good understanding of local government and will have worked in a similar service area.

• You will have experience of working flexibly in a team and across different areas of activity.

• You will have good numeracy, literacy, report writing, presentation and IT skills.

• You will be able to undertake effective research and present findings in a clear, concise format.

• You will have demonstrable experience of meeting service standards, targets and deadlines.

• You will have a good level of general IT skills and the ability to use appropriate specialist in-house software packages.

Requirements

• Proven experience in communications, PR and/or journalism in similar roles (KSE1).

• Media relations experience, including responses to media enquiries, organising media events (e.g. press briefings and photo calls), media monitoring, copywriting media materials (e.g. news releases and briefing notes), evidence of work with local and regional media (across print, TV and digital) (KSE1).

• Experience of working with other external stakeholders (KSE3).

• Educated to degree level or equivalent, or able to demonstrate equivalent level of theoretical knowledge (KSE2).

• Sound copywriting skills for a range of audiences and purposes (e.g. news releases and other media content, reports, leaflets, content for websites) (KSE5)

• Experience of event organising (e.g. press briefings, staff conferences) (KSE1)

• Experience of overseeing design and print work (KSE1).
