The home of creativity, live news and a love of all things East and West Sussex, SussexLive is one of the fastest growing regional news websites in the country. Never ones to rest on our laurels, we're looking for a creative and dynamic newly qualified reporter to help take us to the next level and grow our coverage of this brilliant county at a hyperlocal level.

You'll be joining our existing creative and exciting team of reporters in the role of multimedia journalist leading our BrightonLive minisite. Based in the community, you'll be covering live news, producing high quality features and above all delivering creative digital storytelling in this incredibly exciting and diverse patch. We're passionate about trying new things and attracting new audiences and you'll be determined to dominate in a highly competitive field.

We're looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities.

This role is open to all levels so whether you're a trainee looking for their first opportunity or a senior journalist looking for a new challenge please get in touch for more information.


Key Responsibilities

What will the role involve?

  • Find and tell stories about local communities which engages as many readers as possible, or stories which will be of interest to local communities
  • Build communities online and in real life to share stories with once published, and engaged with readers about those stories
  • Tell stories in many different ways, including (but not limited to) real-time live blogs, article format, video, audio and pictures
  • Ensure every piece of content is thoroughly researched and balanced prior to publication

The Ideal Candidate

Who are we looking for?

  • You are competitive, creative and passionate, with an awareness of quality digital storytelling
  • You want to carve your own niche in an extremely competitive area
  • You will have an NCTJ-accredited journalism qualification and will use it to generate content which engages local audiences and meets the standards set by Reach
  • We want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many diverse communities as we seek to grow new audiences
  • A driving licence is preferable
  • Ideally you will have 100wpm shorthand
