Our Client is looking for an Electronics and Firmware Engineer, on a permanent staff basis, location in Aberdeen.
ROLE
The Electronics and Firmware Engineer will be a key member of a team which will be responsible for developing and maintaining products for the company. The position involves implementing technology development strategy and proposing new technology development directions and innovation possibilities for the company to pursue.
A small company and any position will involve a wide array of job tasks. The candidate will be challenged, at times extending beyond their core competence and comfort zone to explore new technologies and bring these into the companies' products. There is great potential to expand personal skills and directly contribute to the growth of the company through cross-discipline collaboration and working in a small team with diverse tasks and responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with the technical manager to implement new electronic designs for products.
In collaboration with technical manager design and produce electronics to achieve wireless power transfer and data transfer.
Design and produce firmware and software to control and interface to company products both for power transfer and data transfer systems.
In collaboration with technical manager and project management personnel, help with project planning, scheduling, implementation.
Build personal expertise to develop personal competence and support the company's product ambitions.
Primary Objectives
In collaboration with technical manager, design, build and test electronics to help deliver products to market.
Help to ensure that the company maintains an electronics technology leadership position in its market through superior quality, design and implementation of electronics, software and firmware.
Maintain and update company's existing product electronics and firmware.
Develop systems to aid in the testing of products such as data throughput testers, mate/de-mate testers etc.
Specific Responsibilities of the Job
Effectively manage work deadlines for self
Electronics design and test, either self-lead or in collaboration with project team members
Firmware design and test, either self-lead or in collaboration with project team members
Software design and test, either self-lead or in collaboration with project team members
Communicate and liaise with technical manager, other team members and where relevant academic institutions to help to deliver company technology objectives.
Identify sales and development opportunities, contributing to company technological and business strategies, proactively developing ideas and applications.
Asist in the writing of technical documentation to support the companies' products.
Represent the company exclusively within the company's market.
Efficiently and effectively apply company resources to achieve company goals.
Analyze and improve the company's technology.
Train electronics technicians for efficient performance of their tasks
Assist in the authoring of academic papers, attending relevant conferences and periodically presenting papers to support company internal and external objectives.
Other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
Strong scientific or engineering background (Masters preferred) and industry experience. Expert experience with electronics engineering and design software systems esp. circuit design, and firmware development and related areas required to support job responsibilities.
Competence with general business software including MS Office, project- and task-management and online collaboration software. Must be able to learn new tools.
Essential Skills
Digital and analogue electronics simulation, design, build and testing. Spice and Altium designer preferred.
Firmware design, writing and testing. Microchip and TI preferred.
Electronics manufacturing.
Embedded systems build, installation and configuration. OpenWRT is preferred.

Organization and time management skills
Must exercise ability to multi-task, manage and correctly prioritize multiple ongoing projects; work independently and in team environment; exercise excellent personal and project management skills. Be able to manage requests, recurring issues and questions from colleagues, clients, partners and suppliers; work under stress and pressure of internal / external deadlines in a calm, efficient, and confident manner.
Communication Skills
Ability to interface effectively with colleagues, partners, clients and academic institutions across multiple disciplines. Able to understand and explain the company's research programs; superior listening skills; able to communicate effectively with members of sponsoring agencies, vendors, colleagues, partners and clients in a cooperative and fully responsible manner. Must positively represent the company at all times.
Fluency in English language is essential for this position due to the international nature of the company's supplier, client and partner activity.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to electrical and electronic test equipment and laboratory conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate but may be elevated in the field.
Visits to remote sites may be required periodically, involving extended work hours and working conditions. Visits to client and supplier sites may also be required from time to time. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided by the company as required.
This position is based at the company's offices in Aberdeen, Scotland. Remote office / telecommuting is accepted where it does not conflict with the need to physically test or build electronic systems.
Physical requirements
Some manufacture, assembly and testing of electronic and electro-mechanical components and assemblies is required. Work may include the individual handling of weight up to 25kg
