Teaching Assistant (Pupil Referral Unit) Torbay - SEND TA Jobs

Axcis Education are looking for an experienced teaching assistant to assist children who have been excluded from mainstream school with very challenging behaviour in a secure pupil referral unit. The ideal candidate must be confident in supporting children aged between 5-11, who have special educational needs, including Autism, ADHD, Challenging behaviour, SEMH and traumatic experiences. Most of the children have also been in the care system and struggle to build relationships. The role is a full time position working from Monday to Friday (8:30 - 3:30) paying a rate of GBP80 per day in the Torbay or Exeter area. You must be a driver for this role as you will be expected to drive the students to appointments or activities in the community. The PRU is a purpose built school with a fantastic outside area, a secure environment to work in with great resources and an amazing variety of teaching assistants who work well as a team. The expectation is for at least 50% of the pupils to return to mainstream schooling. The school is only a short walk from local transport links and car parking onsite. The successful candidate must be able to help manage the children's challenging behaviour in the classroom or in the community and have good de-escalation techniques when a child is triggered. Team Teach or MAPA is desirable but not essential. You must be someone who can build positive relationships and be a good role model. This job is very intense but also very rewarding as you watch the children grow and develop their social and emotional needs. The goal is to transition the children back in to mainstream schooling or finish their GCSE's ready for a future career or further education.
