Job Title: Technical Designer (Placement or Graduate)

As part of the Staffordshire Digital Innovation Partnerships project, Staffordshire University has entered into a partnership with Carse & Waterman, and are looking to recruit a graduate / undergraduate to take on a 24 week project to research, design and develop a virtual reality environment for learning as part of their Digital Framescape Initiative. The role will involve producing and designing interactive frameworks for improving the delivery of creative content to customers via virtual events integrating AR, VR and gaming technologies.

This role is suitable for Games programming/ AI and Virtual Reality students and graduates.

Duties & responsibilities

* Work with the production team to develop ideas and design better and more innovative solutions for the delivery of creative content.

* Assess the current platforms used by the business for content delivery and design and build more engaging and effective solutions.

* Design and produce engaging content for eLearning and skill support

* Working with web, AR, VR, gaming or similar technologies to engage the user and potentially gamify the content to help create more engaging content experiences for customers.

* Work as part of a team in the office or remotely as social distancing dictates.

Skills and Experience:

* UE Blueprint experience

* Understanding of level building and interaction

* Design experience in all areas of development including UI, sound integration, animation and in game interactions

* Understanding of Materials and lighting pipeline

* Experience with rapid prototyping of mechanics.

* Experience of UE4, MAYA, Substance designer & painter, and photoshop preferable

* Experience with mixed media and cross platform approach to development

* Skills or knowledge of VR / AR system architecture and approach to responsive design

* Knowledge of scrum / agile and Jira project methodologies & approaches

* Knowledge of sub version control

* Strong problem-solving skills

* Good communication skills

* Good attention to detail

* Willingness to step outside of comfort zone and attempt new things

The position is offered on a full time (37.5 hours), fixed term contract for six months (24 weeks/900 hours)

Rate of pay: GBP9.34ph (equivalent to GBP18,213 per annum)

Start Date: June 2021 (subject to agreement)

The role will be situated within the host businesses premises (remote/blended working may be required)
