My client was founded over 60 years ago and has rapidly risen to be one of the world-leading companies specialising in the manufacture of electron beam and laser welding systems. Their 30,000 square foot head office is based in Cambridge and they have grown Globally with offices in both China and the US.

Due to this increased growth, workload, an impending retirement and changing market conditions they now have a requirement for a full time Electrical/Systems Design Engineer to work along side both the existing Electrical and Mechanical Design Engineers.

The ideal candidate for this position would be an Electrical Systems Design Engineer with a degree or equivalent in a related electrical-based subject and they would ideally have a minimum of 6-10 years relevant working experience. Ideally the candidate should have a working knowledge of the following disciplines:

Electronics (Digital & Analogue)
Systems Control Techniques
Motion Control Systems
Electrical System (Mains & Low Voltage)
Worked with EPLAN electrical drawing system
Software Writing :-

PC HMI Based Systems
PLC
SCADA
CNC
National Instruments NI
You should be able to produce electrical drawings using AutoCAD and compile parts lists for production control purposes. You would ideally also be able to use the EPLAN drawing package and be able to create instruction manuals in MS Word and Powerpoint. Experience of Excel and commonly used engineering software packages would also be highly advantageous.

If successful, you would report to the Engineering Director, Lead Systems Engineer and liaise with the existing Electrical Engineers. This would include project status reports for submission to the Development and Management meetings.

The ideal person would have the ability to work in a team and with outside resources and customers. They would be equally comfortable working alone and be able to manage their own workload. They would be able to converse freely with existing Design Engineers, Production Engineers and Sales Engineers and ideally have experience of working in previous roles where they have been involved with seeing a project / process through from design through production to final stage.

This is a full time, permanent position working a 38 hour week, Monday to Friday. This role pays a competitive salary plus a generous benefits package which includes free parking, annual leave, company pension, private healthcare etc. You would require your own transport to commute to site and this position would be fully office-based.
