Position Summary:
We are a recognised leader in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) field, having acted as consultant, designer and systems and software developers on projects with local and national highway and transport organisations, in the UK and overseas. Our professionals bring expertise across the broad spectrum from policy development and concept design, through software and systems development to operations and maintenance. The firm has significant experience in the fields of strategy and policy, traffic management and network operation, traveller information systems, data analysis, ticketing and smart cards, tolling and security.
Our team, based in central Glasgow, includes software developers, user interface designers, database developers and administrators and test and release engineers supported by project managers and ITS professionals. As a Development Operations Contractor we will need you to have a good knowledge of the theories, practices and procedures within development operations and experience in managing and maintaining various development environments (e.g. factory acceptance and site acceptance testing environments), managing cloud installations and source code repositories.
You will be conversant in build management processes for software development projects, act as the software release gatekeeper working with the release team to manage software deployments. Working as part of the project team you will be responsible for leading operations in support of the software development team.
You will have experience of, and be able to support, the testing and release teams and have an awareness and understanding of project budgets and the effort allocation to deliver these tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assisting development and release teams to take projects from internal testing to live deployment
* Working within the Software Development and liaising with Information Technology teams
* Delivery of high quality implementation and documentation for critical functionality
* Responsibility for the provision of the development environments and associated processes and procedures
* Proactive continual improvement of processes and procedures
* Occasional client liaison and communication as necessary during development process (e.g. demos, technical meetings, workshops)
* Assist in addressing operational, hardware or network connectivity issues
* Perform upgrades, repairs and preventative maintenance on the development environment
* Administer and maintain virtual server environments
* Verify integrity of backup and restore systems
* Provide network and security support
