Headquartered near Glasgow, ESS Holdings' client is an independent manufacturer of III-V photonic devices who provide custom foundry services in InP, GaAs, GaN and GaSb on 2", 3" and 4" wafers, and have ongoing, active R+D and volume manufacturing contracts in various technology areas. They are now working with a number of massive multi-national blue chip businesses in the global data-comms arena and will going through a serious product / technology, productivity and people ramp.
As the business acquires new customers on top of existing customers, they need to hire a commercially focused Internal and External Technical Sales and Applications support team. This is not new business / hard selling. This is a global role that involves working with customers to uncover and understand their requirements, and to collaborate internally with Photonics commercial, technical, operations, and production teams to create proposals, quotations, and detailed work packages/contracts that deliver successful project sales outcomes and overall business growth. Key responsibilities should include:
Respond to customer enquiries, investigating the technical and commercial requirements for product and project sales opportunities.
Attend tradeshows, events, and customer meetings to generate and evolve new sales leads. Continuously scan for and reach out to new business opportunities.
Follow the sales process from enquiry through to purchase order.
Perform structured technical and commercial analysis of opportunities to determine the feasibility of technology development projects, ensuring the needs of the customer are balanced with the capabilities of the business.
Compile internal proposals for management review, collaborating across the business and communicating effectively between customers and colleagues.
Create statements of work and other contractual documents detailing the agreed technical and commercial aspects of projects for the customer.
Assemble detailed quotations that link technical procedures to invoicing milestones, working with finance and commercial teams to consider cost and profit implications.
Negotiate and close sales, working with management teams to provide unsurpassed customer service and win-win outcomes.
Nurture existing customers, providing technical support where required and generally bridging the gap between the customer, commercial team, and technical team.
The relevant candidate is educated to Degree level (MSC or PhD preferred) in a technical, science or engineering discipline - ideally Physics, Photonics, Optoelectronics, III-V or semiconductor based. We are looking candidates who have a real interest in a commercial technical role, not in a hard selling capacity. This will suit Applications/Sales Engineers, Product Engineers, Process Engineers and other technologists who are interested in a commercially facing technical role, bridging the gap between inhouse staff and the customer. A background in compiling technical quotes would be a distinct advantage.
