The school

Accrington Academy is part of United Learning, a successful national group of independent schools and academies which share a mission to bring out ‘the best in everyone’ and improve the life chances of the children and young people in their care. Our school has a strong local reputation and has been oversubscribed for several years. We are a successful school, with expanding 11-18 provision, and most students spend their entire journey with us.

Our most important purpose is to teach young people things they would not learn outside school which empower them. We strive to ‘bring out the best’ in every child, regardless of their background, prior attainment or needs. We are committed to providing ‘Education with Character’ – we want young people to look back on a schooling that has inspired and challenged them, given them wide opportunity and prepared them for the ups and downs of life.

We are unapologetically ambitious for our students to succeed in life and encourage every staff member to commit to our school vision:

  • We will be an aspirational, high achieving school of choice for children and staff in the Northwest.
  • We will be at the heart of the community creating lifelong learners where everyone is proud and happy to belong.
  • We will create opportunities and experiences which broaden horizons and create lifelong memories.

As a school we encourage our staff to work creatively together and our core Team Values underpin how we operate:

#TeamAA

Truth - We will tell the truth to ourselves and each other, even when it's hard.

Effort - We will work hard individually and as a team and never give up.

Ambition - We will always aim high and challenge ourselves to be the best we can be.

Manners - We will respect everyone in our school and treat everyone with kindness.

The role

You will be responsible for teaching History at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. You will be an experienced teacher, delivering consistently good and outstanding lessons, an excellent team player with the highest standards of professionalism and expectations of students. You will have up to date subject knowledge and a track record of success in maximising student progress across all key stages.

As well as being an enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about the teaching of History, you will also be required to be a form tutor and support extra-curricular activities at the Academy.

Humanities is a strong and supportive department within school currently with eight staff members. The subjects are popular within the student body with an excellent uptake at GCSE and sustainable A-level groups for both History and Geography. We believe extra-curricular learning is essential for our students and have taken students to Berlin, Auschwitz and London. When COVID restrictions lift there are future plans for a Geography trip to Iceland, a history trip to Krakow and an RE trip to London. Collaborative learning and CPD are at the heart of the department and we continually strive to improve our practice, holding the highest expectations of ourselves for our students.

We would welcome applications from both experienced teachers and NQT's looking to start their career in a supportive environment.

Why Join Us?

Our students demand the best from their teachers, and we are committed to doing everything we can to support their development.
