Inclusive Cycling Project Coordinator (Maternity Cover Contract)
Bristol (with potential home working options)

About Us

We are Life Cycle UK, a charity that helps people feel healthier, happier and more connected to each other – using cycling as a vehicle. Based in Bristol and working across the West of England and Derbyshire, we have been transforming lives through cycling since 1999. We know that cycling will play a key role in tackling our society’s biggest challenges: poor health and wellbeing, COVID-19 and the climate emergency.

Our Inclusive Cycling projects offer extra support to any individual or group that experiences barriers to cycling. We offer Beginner and Returner courses, a Cycle Buddy scheme, supported Group Rides (Visually Impaired, Over 55s, Mental Well-being) and Young Person’s sessions. We also provide access to loan bikes, affordable refurbished bikes, free 1-1 cycle training and free basic bike maintenance tuition.

We’re now looking for an Inclusive Cycling Project Coordinator to join the Inclusive Cycling team for a nine month maternity cover contract, on a part-time basis (working 30 hours over four days each week).

The Benefits

- Salary of £20,003 – £23,161 pro rata
- 5% pension contribution
- 31 days’ holiday per annum (including Bank Holidays)
- Staff discounts on refurbished bikes
- Cycle to work scheme
- Discounted tech through TechScheme
- Discounted Endura cycle clothing
- Support the delivery of services that are making a positive difference in people’s lives

If you are a keen cyclist with experience of working with vulnerable people and managing volunteers, it’s time to get your wheels spinning and take the handlebars of our exciting Inclusive Cycling projects. Reporting to the Inclusive Cycling Manager and working with our dedicated Inclusive Cycling team, you’ll be at the hub of our activities, ensuring that our gears don’t slip and the trail is clear.

Okay, enough cycling puns – this role is the perfect way to get people into cycling who otherwise wouldn’t get involved. We know, as you do, that cycling is an amazing way to feel healthy, have fun and get where you need to be with minimal environmental impact.

However, for some people, it doesn’t always seem that accessible. And that’s where you come in.

You’ll have the chance to engage with people who experience additional barriers to becoming regular cyclists, show them the ropes, build their confidence and most of all – get them having fun on a bike.

The Role

As the Inclusive Cycling Project Coordinator, you will act as a key agent of change for would-be cyclists, offering activities that promote the physical and mental well-being of cycling and provide a pathway from absolute beginner to fully independent cyclist.

The overall aim of our Inclusive Cycling projects is for individuals to increase their cycling activity and experience the personal, social and environmental benefits of doing so.

Specifically, you will reach out and engage with those who may be socially excluded due to age, ethnicity, economic disadvantage, disability, physical or mental health.

Co-ordinating Get Cycling! Courses, Group Rides and Cycle Buddies activities, you will work flexibly across all Inclusive Cycling projects.

Your role will also involve:

- Meeting with new participants to explain our activities and encourage participation
- Guiding and supporting participants to progress in their level of cycling ability
- Recruiting, training, managing and supporting volunteers
- Developing a volunteer-led Inclusive Cycling social hub

About You

To be considered as the Inclusive Cycling Project Co-ordinator, you will need:

- Proven experience of working with vulnerable services users and hard to reach communities – this could be people with mental health issues, physical health issues or another vulnerable client group
- Experience of delivering informal programmes of training and learning
- Experience of running activities and events
- Experience of promoting activities and events, using a variety of methods (digital and offline).
- Experience of managing and supporting volunteers
- Knowledge of the issues that face people who are experiencing mental and concurrent physical health illness, and the ability to empathise
- To be a confident cyclist with an awareness of the barriers that can prevent people from cycling
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to people of all abilities, ages and backgrounds
- Social media skills
- Proven project management skills, including report writing, gathering feedback and evaluation
- Excellent administrative skills and the ability to organise programmes of cycling activities
- Excellent organisation skills, with careful attention to detail
- A good level of computer literacy, especially with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.) and experience of using CRM/database systems.

Experience of working in the voluntary sector would be beneficial to your application, as would an understanding of learning psychology and behaviour change.

Being a qualified cycling instructor or the willingness to complete Ride Leader training would also be an advantage.

The closing date for this role is the 7th June 2021 at 9am.

Other organisations may call this role Project Co-ordinator, Community Project Co-ordinator, Activity Co-ordinator, or Volunteer Co-ordinator
