Surrey as a place has a central role to play in the regional and national economy and is already making a significant contribution to wealth creation, enterprise, jobs, business, homes, physical infrastructure and skills. Across Surrey there is also a deeply held ambition for the future - one that recognises the area's many unique characteristics and strengths and which brings an unwavering focus on creating great places for people to live, work, learn and enjoy.

Our fierce ambition for the vitality of our places and our communities is at the heart of what defines our approach to "good growth". This approach is at the heart of the Surrey Place Ambition 2050 - a joint statement produced by key partners that sets out the vision and plans for the future.

To provide support for this and to turn the vision into reality we're looking to establish an exceptional Placemaking group. As well as working in partnership with external stakeholders, the team will support collaboration and joined-up thinking across the Council, combining our efforts where possible to create better places for our communities.

The Placemaking team will really set the standards for better street design and ensure that through local community participation; schemes are developed and designed to the highest possible standards with our focus on greener futures and strengthening the economy, at the heart of everything we do.

Who are we looking for?

There are many routes to funding schemes and in this role you will need to maintain awareness of all open and planned funding opportunities that are relevant to SCC in a placemaking context. As a Principal Funding & Grants Officer, you should have experience of securing external funding and grants, be able to lead on bids in partnership with internal and external stakeholders and have knowledge of how to monitor and oversee expenditure against the funding criteria associated with the bid. This will require aligning bidding opportunities against our strategic priorities.

The skills and experience you bring are important to us but equally, your values and behaviours will be key to your success in this role. We're looking for people who:

  • Can demonstrate previous experience in a similar role where successful bids and grant applications have been made, ideally within a local government context
  • Are innovative thinkers, strong influencers and who can work collaboratively to achieve collective success

If you share our vision and have the determination, enthusiasm and ability to create better places; we want to hear from you!
