Academic Coach & Mentor
(£17,890 - £19,752) 36 hours per week - term time plus 3 weeks, 2 year fixed term
Pensby High School is a mixed 11-16 school, situated on the Wirral. The local authority continues with a tested grammar school system and Pensby High School whilst operating along comprehensive lines, is a non-selective school.
This post is to promote both academic achievement and the well-being of targeted students. The post holder will coach students in both small group and individual settings in order to close identified gaps in their learning. They will also mentor identified students using the school’s mentoring programme which builds upon the Prince’s Trust mentoring programme.
You will support the ethos and culture of the school undertaking lunchtime and after school activities with students as directed and required, and work to ensure that every member of our community is safe and supported, following school policies, but challenging and questioning whenever is necessary.
It is expected that the post holder will carry out her/his responsibilities within this framework, however, other duties commensurate with this post will be required
As a coach, you will work closely with teachers and subject leaders to deliver coaching sessions to support students to move forward with their learning or recover lost learning in order that they might make greater progress. The initial focus for all students will be English and mathematics and securing students progression to the next step in their lives, whatever that might be.
As a mentor you will be delivering sessions in school based around improving confidence and employability. As a Pensby High School Mentor you will plan sessions that are designed to be interactive and engaging - improving work ethic, helping students reflect on their own goals and how they are going to achieve them.
Effective mentoring programmes can boost participants’ aspirations, confidence, self-belief and motivation. Crucially, mentoring programmes enhance participants ‘soft skills’- personality traits, social graces, communication, language, personal habits, friendliness, and optimistic outlook – which are increasingly important for success at school and in the current job market.
