Team Leader AAA/ZHA/Sustainment Principle Engineer

The role

An Ageing Aircraft Audit (AAA) - Principal Engineer in Safety and Aerospace Engineering is responsible for the AAA/Zonal Hazard Analysis (ZHA) activity elements carried out on MoD/civil rotary/fixed wing assets. Each AAA work package will require the individual to deliver defined project artefacts to our customers. Artefact production may cover the whole range of AAA activity spanning the Airworthiness, Structures, Systems, Propulsion and the Aircraft Condition Survey reviews in accordance with the military regulations, requiring excellent report writing skills as essential for the delivery of output.

The role will include Team Leader responsibilities for a small team, circa 8, of airworthiness and safety subject matter experts. Additionally the post holder will be required to support the provision of estimates and developing technical solutions for AAA/ZHA activity. It is expected that this will be approx 20% of the role with the remainder focussed as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on tasks associated with the delivery of output. The role will predominantly be working with air platforms providing support to AAA and ZHA. In order to deliver output, the successful candidate will need to be flexible to work on a variety of platforms and be prepared to travel to meet customer and internal business needs. There will also be a need to support, mentor and supervise other resources within the Group, this will include providing projects with documentation technical assurance through peer review prior to delivery where appropriate.

Key Accountabilities:
- Ensure that work tasks are delivered to the specified time, cost and quality standards and any other specifications given
- Provide recommended solutions to problems that are defensible, auditable and which will meet customers' expectations and needs
- Support time estimates for inputs to bids
- Manage AAA resources within the project to ensure product quality and timeliness
- Work collaboratively with Project Managers to meet the customers' needs
- Ensure that all work performed is consistent with QinetiQ Compliance Procedures
- Explore and develop potential business opportunities within existing/potential customer base
- Develop and maintain effective technical networks with customers.

Successful outcomes of this role:
- Provision of verbal and written technical advice to the Customer as tasked by Project Managers and Capability Managers.

Essential Education, Qualifications and Training:
- Engineering Degree, preferably Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Chartered Engineer.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
- Demonstrable Military Airworthiness experience of 8 years working in or for an MoD Delivery Team for a Type Airworthiness Authority
- Demonstrable evidence of having worked with or having appropriate knowledge of Aircraft/Air Platform Regulatory & Legal Compliance, through life Integrity Management, Ageing Aircraft Activity and Safety Regulations & Standards.
- In depth knowledge of the MRP especially the MRP 5000 Series related to Integrity Management.
- Analytical and logical thinking skills consistent with those associated with the successful completion of a degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics; also the job holder must have conceptual flexibility and be able to think in an integrated, holistic and systematic manner
- Good judgement for reliably identifying and managing opportunities and risks, and also for selecting the most appropriate solution from a range of options
- Good questioning, listening, influencing and general interpersonal skills to obtain relevant and accurate information from others
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
- A collaborative willingness to take the lead and influence/persuade others to align to a particular course of action
- Good team working and collaboration skills
- Knowledge and experience in working with regulatory organisations
- Excellent leadership and management skills.

Essential Personal Qualities and Behavioural Requirements:

- Job holder is expected to travel regularly in the UK including overnight stays
- Seek guidance from others when in doubt and advise/support others where the expertise is considered to be SQEP.

Desirable Criteria:
- Masters' Degree in Engineering Discipline
- Demonstrable evidence of working in and deep knowledge of rotary or fixed wing Aircraft forward and depth maintenance and certification SQEP of maintenance activity
- Working knowledge of the platform ADS, maintenance processes, LIS and the extraction of data therein methods/tools and how to apply this data in relation the previous domain(s)
